The University of Chile, based in the capital city of Santiago, is the oldest in the country, and one of the most prestigious in the region.

Through its research, teaching and innovation across sciences and arts, the university aims to tackle national and regional issues in society. It was founded with a view to promote democracy, science and technological development, and social mobility.

There are five campuses containing many research centres, museums, health centres and sports facilities.

The health facilities include a clinical hospital and research laboratories, serving the public as well as pioneering medical research and providing opportunities for students.

One of the first astronomy observatories in Latin America – The National Astronomy Observatory founded in 1852 – belongs to the university.

On the campus, sports facilities are available both to students and staff. Interfaculty sports competitions take place all through the year.

Among the notable alumni are two Nobel laureates – poets Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral – and 20 presidents of Chile.

The university is organised into 14 faculties and 4 interdisciplinary institutes, offering a total of undergraduate 66 programmes, 36 doctoral programmes, 119 master’s programmes and other specialised courses.

In addition to an exam for applicants, the university also offers separate admission routes to outstanding athletes, blind students and other specified groups.

A third of all scientific publications in the country are associated with the university. Currently there are ongoing research projects in education, health, engineering and agriculture.

The most iconic building belonging to the university is Main House, designed in a neoclassical style in 1872.

The role The main purpose of the job is to undertake research and support the delivery of the OSMOSIS research programme as required. OSMOSIS is funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research. The aim of OSMOSIS is to co-produce resources and toolkits to improve the support available to family/informal carers for a relative affected by psychosis. The OSMOSIS programme comprises three work packages: (i) a service mapping exercise in three local boroughs across East London and East Sussex; (ii) a qualitative study using individual interviews with carers and focus groups with various staff to explore carers’ experiences of accessing social care support; and (iii) co-production and sharing of outputs with associated toolkits to improve and facilitate support for carers. The research programme is jointly led by researchers at the University of Surrey and City St George’s, with further co-investigators based in University of Kent and community organisations. There will be a second Post-Doctoral Research Fellow based at City St George’s, and the two Fellows will work closely for the duration of the research programme. Both postholders will work on all three of the programme’s work packages, taking the lead for their respective areas. Main duties will include establishing and strengthening collaboration with local community carer organisations, carer support workers, conducting desktop and site-based service mapping exercise, qualitative data collection and analysis, and working closely with the PPI Leads in co-producing outputs and associated toolkits to aid implementation. There will be opportunities to contribute to and lead academic papers and presentations at dissemination events. About you Applications are invited from candidates with qualitative and participatory/co-produced research expertise, and experience in conducting community engagement and service mapping. Applicants drawing on personal experiences of caring for a loved one living with mental health challenges in their work will be particularly welcome. The postholder will be based in a team with considerable expertise in providing support and mentoring for researchers working from a lived experience perspective. We welcome applications from people from racially minoritised communities. You will need to be motivated, efficient, have good communication skills, and excellent track record of completing deliverables on time. You will manage the day-to-day running of the work packages and work closely with the rest of the research team and the network of collaborators. The project leverages advanced materials engineering expertise to deliver an innovative, eco-friendly, low-carbon tunnelling solution that is first-of-its-kind. This will contribute to addressing the urgent need to address the climate emergency and help achieve carbon emissions reduction targets. We are seeking a Civil Engineering and Materials (KTP Associate) to join the team. As a KTP Associate you will deliver an innovative project as an employee of the University of East London, but will spend most of your working time at the company’s premises and sites. Technical Tracing the complex binding, self-forming, self-regulating and self-healing mechanisms (e.g., hydration, silicatisation, sequestration) reactions in Realtime, their interdependencies, and complex response to the environmental factors and controllers. Research Assistant (Bacterial Evolution)

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant in Bacterial Evolution to join the UKRI FLF-funded research group of Dr Rachel Wheatley, based in the School of Biological Sciences at Queen's University Belfast. Species interactions are a fundamental comonent of bacterial infections. Yet, when, and how these interactions impact the response of a bacterial pathogen to antibiotics is currently not clear. The appointee for this position will: (1) conduct research into how microbial interactions impact antibiotic resistance in bacterial pathogens, and (2) assist in the general running of the research laboratory, with tasks such as lab ordering, autoclaving, and supporting team members with experiments. The successful candidate will be involved in conducting experiments to investigate how antibiotic resistance mutations impact bacterial virulence in a Galleria mellonella model, and experiments to investigate how antibiotic resistance evolves in microbial communities. They will support running of the research laboratory via tasks such as consumable ordering, lab meeting schedules, and supporting team members with experiments. About the person: The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria: Hold a Degree in a relevant area (e.g. biological sciences, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry). Specific, relevant and demonstratable research experience in experimental lab work. Experience in working with microorganisms.
