The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop a demonstration scale low pressure membrane system in collaboration with Atera Water Pte Ltd. Key Responsibilities Applicants are invited for a Research Engineer in low pressure membrane system (LPMS). Reporting to the Project Principal Investigator (PI), you will assist in all administration matters including overseeing, planning, forecasting, budgeting as well as ensuring the smooth running of the daily operations for the project Assists in co-supervision of final year projects (FYP) or capstone projects students or student helpers under the Project PI. Assist in designing, planning and setting up of a demonstration scale LPMS plant at a site allocated by PUB. Assist in designing, planning and setting up of a lab-scale LPMS plant at a SIT Punggol campus Assist in carrying out of experiment, data logging and analysis of data collected. Work with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) results generated by an expert to correlate with experimental data Assists the PI in drafting of reports, conference proceedings and journal articles based on the outcome of the projects. Prepares and shares fortnightly report of results from the computations with the program director and PI. Support the procurement and maintenance of the software/hardware under the charge of the PI Any other adhoc duties assigned. Requirements The appointee should have a strong foundation in fluid dynamics and understanding of fluid (air and water) flow is important. Appointee should also have experience with design of experiments, carrying out experiments and results analysis. Prior experience working with membrane systems will be a plus. A recognised degree from a good University B.Eng or M.Eng in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, chemical or environmental engineering Strong foundation in Fluid Dyanmics Able to work independently with strong data analytical skills, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficient in handling large data sets and the ability to analysis and interpret results Experience with internet of things setup and controller design (PLC or embedded computing) Key Competencies Good self-discipline and motivated to deliver Show strong initiative and take ownership of work Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university. The successful candidate will contribute to our institution's commitment to excellence in research and innovation in agronomy and soils sciences, mainly by conducting innovate research which allow us: (i) to evaluate the effect of land uses and agricultural practices on the capacity of soils to store carbon and (ii) to develop strategies (organo-mineral amendment, installation of a plant cover, inoculation by microorganisms of agronomic interest) and propose recommendations (iii) to increase the sequestration of organic matter on its stable form in the soils and (iv) to use practical biological soil health indicators, such as soil fauna, to promote sustainable use of agricultural soils in Africa. Main responsibilities: The selected candidate will be expected to: Conduct a survey with farmers to obtain a general view of real agricultural practices used in the selected Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan African countries where SOC is very low; Propose characterisation of the soil properties collected from different studied farms; Test how to Improve soil organic carbon content using organo-mineral resources under controlled condition; Assess the effect of using organo-mineral resources on soil carbon stock in the field; Implement agronomic assay to evaluate the stability of clay-humic complexes under culture conditions and how an intense of microbial activity contributes into the process of stabilization of organic matter; Assess the effects of organo-mineral management on soil biological parameters, including soil fauna; Predict the dynamic of OM in the future global climate change by using Soil Organic Models. Mentor master students and PhDs Education, qualifications, and experience Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Agronomy, Soils Sciences with hands-on the dynamic of Organic Matter in the soils, or Soil Ecology. Description The Center for Astrophysics and Space Science (CASS) at NYUAD is looking to appoint new independent fellows working in one (or more) of the following center's research fields Extrasolar Planets Galactic Astrophysics (including compact objects) Extragalactic Astrophysics and Cosmology Astroparticle Physics (Dark Matter searches, gamma-ray spectroscopy, gravitational waves) The center currently consists of eight faculty members and more than 25 researchers and PhD students. The Center possesses the unique possibility to investigate fundamental questions in astrophysics, astroparticle physics, and planetary physics from several points of view, with the expertise of its members ranging from collecting and analyzing state-of-the-art data on the nature of the visible and invisible matter in the Universe, to detailed theoretical and numerical studies from planets to galaxies, and linking them together cohesively. We expect successful applicants to work towards improving the collaborations and connections among the different areas. The center fellows will have access to a 70,000-core Infiniband Cluster (Jubail) dedicated to the science division, several GPU-based clusters at NYUAD, and other supercomputer facilities through the CASS network.
