Established in 1965 and part of the University of California (which comprises 10 institutions), UC Irvine is the only research university in Orange County that’s in the Association of American Universities (AAU).

Offering 192 degree programmes, the university attracts a total of over 30,000 students.

Its main circular-shaped campus is centred around Aldrich Park, a landscaped area home to thousands of trees, and most of the academic buildings – known for their Brutalist architecture – are located on its edge.

The UCI library system covers 350,000 square feet over four separate locations, collectively housing around 3.6 million books, 154,000 journals and serials, and 114,000 government documents, among other collections.

The UCI campus also claims to be among the most green and energy efficient in the US. Its UCI Medical Centre is the only university hospital in the county.

The faculty includes Nobel laureates and recipients of the National Medal of Science. 

UCI is responsible for bringing more than $300 million in annual research funding to the region, while its endowment is valued at over $500 million.

The university holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest pillow fight, when 4,200 pillow-wielding students participated in an organised event on campus during its 2014 Welcome Week.

Irvine also prides itself on its environmental and sustainability credentials – it has been ranked the no.1 greenest college in the nation, in successive years, by Sierra magazine.

It’s also renowned for the world-famous guests it invites to speak on campus, including the XIV Dalai Lama, Jordan’s Queen Noor, British business magnate Sir Richard Branson, and United Nations messenger of peace Charlize Theron.

The university’s mascot, an anteater named Peter, was chosen because it ‘embraces the power of being different’

Job Purpose At SIT's Professional Officers Division, we bring our rich industry experience and technical skills into our work, creating a better physical environment where learning and innovation take place. We work with teaching programmes and innovation projects to improve the skills of our students and to strengthen & energise our industry and the wider community. A Professional Officer has a combination of job responsibilities relating to the following: participate in and manage innovation projects, manage digital technology related resources, and mentor & facilitate student learning. The Centre for Digital Enablement (CoDE) drives the initiatives to elevate digital competencies for academic staff and students within SIT. It works with various stakeholders, both internal and external, in upskilling digital literacy across the organization through literacy programmes and digital innovation projects in relation to the Digital Learning Spaces (DLS). For this role, you will spearhead the various AI enablement programmes in SIT, manage the AI related resources and initiatives within CoDE, and lead AI projects within SIT and with industry partners to support teaching and learning objectives. You will also be responsible for developing and delivering digital literacy courses to undergraduate students and academic staff as part of the institutional drive to ensure our graduates are ready for a highly digitally-enabled workforce. Additionally, you’ll be required to mentor and facilitate student learning by participating in and managing student projects. Key Responsibilities AI Enablement Programmes Lead and oversee a range of AI enablement programmes to facilitate the growth of AI skills among SIT undergraduate students and academic staff. Develop an AI Competency Roadmap, providing guidance for SIT undergraduate students and academic staff in developing their AI competencies. Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in AI, ensuring the continued relevancy and currency of the AI enablement programmes and AI Competency Roadmap. AI Projects Drive AI projects within CoDE to support teaching and learning objectives. Collaborate with industry partners, faculty, Professional Officers and other stakeholders to conduct applied research in AI related technologies. Supervise and mentor students in the development of AI projects. Teaching & Student Mentorship Develop and deliver digital skills literacy related courses or workshops to undergraduate students and staff. This includes development of learning contents and activities, providing consultations on digital skills/technology related queries, and assessment and grading of students’ work. Mentor and facilitate student learning by participating in and managing student projects. Any other matters as directed by Director/Deputy Director of CoDE. Job Requirements A good degree in Computer Science or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous. 10+ years of working experience, including at least 5 in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Analytics, or a related area.SIT Internal Proven experience in developing and deploying AI solutions. Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar. Proficiency in data preprocessing, model training, and evaluation techniques. Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems.
