The University of Naples “L’Orientale” (or in Italian, Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale”) was founded in 1732 in Naples, Italy.

It is the oldest school of sinology and oriental studies in Europe and regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious Asian culture and language universities. It specialises in the study of non-European languages and culture.

Missionary Matteo Ripa, of the Propaganda Fide from the Kingdom of Naples worked as a painter and copper-engraver at the imperial court of the Kangxi Emperor in China’s Qing Empire between 1711 and 1723. He then returned to Naples from China with four Chinese Christian teachers and set up the Chinese Institute of Naples, which was sanctioned by Pope Clement X11 in 1732, with the aim of teaching Chinese missionaries and advance the propagation of Christianity in China.

After Italy’s unification in 1861, the institution became the Royal Asian College, with Russian, Hindustani and Persian added to the curriculum.

The original buildings were made into a private palace, then a monastery and church, a school of orphans and eventually the Elena d’Aosta Hospital in 1910.

There is no single campus, but it is spread across Naples with a number of different buildings, which include the Palazzo Giusso, the large converted monastery of Santa Maria Porta Coeli and Palazzo Mediterraneo, which houses the Centro Interdipartimentale dei servizi Linguistici ed Audiovisivi. Abbreviated as CILA, this language lab facility has satellite TV for international programming, a formidable recording studio and cutting edge computers. Today, more than 50 languages are taught. The university is organised into four faculties: the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature, the Faculty of Arabic-Islam and Mediterranean Studies, the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy and the Faculty of Political Sciences.

With internationally recognised programs in both computational and experimental genetics, the department serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research, encouraging collaboration across various scientific and clinical disciplines and maintaining strong connections with international research communities.  About the role Successful candidates will lead their own innovative research programs, focusing on the identification and manipulation of genetic mechanisms in human health and disease. Each group leader will be entrusted with leading their research teams and fostering a collaborative and positive research culture. They are expected not only to secure funding and publish impactful scholarly articles but also to lead initiatives with impact beyond academia, influencing public health policy, enhancing health service delivery, and promoting broader societal benefits. They will be expected to contribute to the vibrant academic community within the department and more broadly across the college. A key aspect of these faculty positions involves education and mentoring, where they will shape the next generation of scientists through their contributions to both undergraduate and postgraduate education. This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. About You To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Lecturer Essential Criteria PhD in human genetics or a closely related field. Demonstrable success in securing external research funding and clear plan for ongoing research success and sustainability. Description Mubadala Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences (ACCESS) at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit an Associate Research Scientist to investigate the molecular and genomic mechanisms underpinning the extraordinary heat tolerance of Arabian Gulf corals, the most thermally resilient corals on Earth. The successful candidate will lead an ambitious research program focused on understanding how individual corals and populations vary in their responses to heat stress. This work will involve the application of genomic and gene expression profiling, as well as eco-physiological assays, to reveal the mechanistic basis of thermal resilience. The position is uniquely placed to bridge fundamental molecular research with applied conservation through close collaboration with another postdoctoral researcher who is leading a selective breeding program for heat-tolerant corals. Together, these efforts will support the development of robust coral populations capable of withstanding intensifying climate-related stressors. Applicants must hold a PhD in biological sciences, molecular ecology, genetics, or a related field, completed by January 2024. They must also possess advanced SCUBA certification with demonstrated research-diving experience, as well as strong proficiency in molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, and statistical analysis. Experience conducting coral heat-stress assays and a record of first-author publications relevant to the field are essential. Preferred qualifications include a driver’s license in the applicant’s home country, boat-operator certification, and scientific diver credentials such as AAUS certification. Additional assets include experience with other omics approaches or epigenetics, advanced coding skills in R or Python, and prior supervisory experience with students or research staff. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, or related fields from a recognized University. Industry certifications like OSCP, CISSP, or CEH are a plus. Experience: At least 5+ years of experience in security analyst, preferably with exposure to cybersecurity applications. Proven experience as a Certified Security Analyst or in a related role, with a strong understanding of industry best practices, cybersecurity frameworks, IoT Security, OT Security, and Mobile Security. Strong understanding of cryptography, including symmetric and asymmetric cryptographic primitives, protocols, and PQC. Experience with adversarial machine learning techniques and defenses. Clear understanding of information security principles and the cyber technology landscape. Ability to develop and enforce security policies, conduct security awareness training, and stay updated on emerging cyber threats and hacker methodologies. Experience in developing and enhancing frameworks or standard operating procedures (SOPs) for handling cybersecurity incidents in different industries. Soft Skills & Mindset: Passionate about cybersecurity, technically hands-on, willing to learn, and curious about the inner workings of Enterprise/OT/Telecommunications technologies and exploiting their vulnerabilities.
