About University of Moratuwa

The University of Moratuwa was established in 1978 in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, but its roots go back to 1893 with the Government Technical School in Colombo. There are six main faculties at the university: architecture, engineering, information technology, business, medicine, and graduate studies.

Moratuwa is located in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and has long been a fishing and trading centre.

There are 14 undergraduate degrees offered at the university across four faculties: architecture, business, engineering, and information technology. The courses include town and country planning, electrical engineering, business science, and fashion design and product development.

The university offers a combination of research-based and taught programs across a range of specialisations, with examples including project management, landscape design, polymer technology, and gemmology.

The university campus is situated on the banks of the Bolgoda Lake, providing a great natural surrounding for students. There’s a variety of clubs and societies for students to participate in, including astronomy, nature, media, maritime and rotaract. The university is also part of the Young Entrepreneur Sri Lanka programme, aiming to help students to understand business and economics and be job-creators instead of job-seekers. Some 400 undergraduates at the university can participate in this programme, where they will create companies and develop skills in communication and self-confidence.
