Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences is located in the Sabzevar district of Razavi Khorasan province in north-eastern Iran, a predominantly agricultural area. It is the oldest higher education institution in Sabzevar City, having started life as a School of Nursing and Midwifery affiliated to Mashhad University in 1986.
It attained independence from Mashhad in 1995, with eight faculty members delivering a four-year degree in nursing along with a two-year associate-level qualification in midwifery. It began admitting students to its seven-year course in medicine in 2008, and currently has in the region of 2,000 students distributed across Schools of Medicine, Health Sciences, Paramedical Science, Nursing and Midwifery and the Jovein School of Nursing.
Students have access to the public health framework of the district incorporating eight hospitals  – Shahed Beheshti, Heshmatiyeh, Mohini, Martyrs, Mohammed Vaseyi, Qamar Ban, Hashem Joven and Vali-e-Asr - as well as the health networks of Jovein, Khoshab, Davarzan, Shashtamed and Joghatai. 
It publishes an open access double-blind peer reviewed Journal of Medical Sciences. 
SUMS also holds a regular Festival of Creative Ideas.

ABOUT THE INDUSTRIAL INTELLIGENT AGENT RESEARCH CENTER

The Industrial Intelligent Agent Research Center at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, aligned with national smart manufacturing strategies, is committed to building a world-leading technological innovation platform for industrial intelligence. The center focuses on a tripartite technical system of "Equipment Automation – Operation & Maintenance Intelligence – System Autonomy," aiming to drive profound transformation in industrial manufacturing by breaking through key technologies in smart equipment, industrial software, and system solutions. The center collaborates closely with industrial giants like Hengtong, Haier, and Bond Tech to create a complete value chain from theoretical innovation to industrial application.

RESEARCH AREAS

1. Industrial AI Algorithm and Autonomous Decision-Making Systems

RESPONSIBILITIES


	Research and develop autonomous decision-making algorithms for process industries (e.g., chemical, pharmaceutical, materials, energy) or discrete manufacturing (e.g., electronics assembly, automotive, home appliances).
	Explore the integration of large language models and reinforcement learning for real-time optimization, fault self-recovery, and production scheduling in industrial processes.
	Publish research results in top-tier international conferences and journals, and participate in applying for domestic and international patents.
	Assist in supervising PhD and Master's students, and participate in the center's collaborative projects with industry partners to promote the industrialization of technology.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES


	A Ph.D. (obtained or soon to be obtained) in Computer Science, Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Operations Research, or a related field.
	Solid research background and practical experience in one or more of the following areas:
	
		Reinforcement Learning / Deep Reinforcement Learning
		Fine-tuning and Application of Large Language Models
		Time-Series Data Prediction and Modeling
		Intelligent Decision-Making and Optimization Algorithms
	
	
	Strong programming skills (proficient in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, etc.).
	Strong intellectual curiosity, ability to solve problems independently, and excellent teamwork spirit.
	Outstanding written and oral communication skills in both Chinese and English.


 2. Industrial Digital Twin and Intelligent Control Systems

RESPONSIBILITIES


	Develop industrial process digital twin models based on the fusion of mechanistic and data-driven approaches.
	Develop predictive maintenance and fault diagnosis algorithms for critical equipment (e.g., compressors, reaction kettles).
	Research advanced process control strategies and deploy them on the center's distributed control systems and edge computing devices.
	Work closely with industry partners to validate and optimize the developed technologies in real industrial environments.
	Publish high-quality academic papers and participate in writing research grant proposals.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES


	A Ph.D. (obtained or soon to be obtained) in Control Science and Engineering, Process Control, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
	In-depth research experience and solid expertise in one or more of the following areas:
	
		Advanced Process Control and Optimization
		Digital Twin and Modeling & Simulation
		Predictive Maintenance and Fault Diagnosis
		Industrial IoT and Edge Computing
	
	
	Good programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++) and experience with system simulation.
	Experience with industrial field projects or familiarity with DCS/MES systems is preferred.
	Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

The Position

Undertake research and instrumentation development in Laser Guide Star Adaptive Optics, with a particular focus on the ULTIMATE Ground Layer Adaptive Optics (GLAO) system for the Subaru Telescope and the Laser Tomography Adaptive Optics (LTAO) system for the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT).

Contribute to the design, development, integration and testing of advanced Adaptive Optics instrumentation, working collaboratively with researchers and engineers at ANU and with national and international partners. Your activities will include independent and collaborative research, publication and dissemination of results, instrumentation development, student supervision and outreach. You will also have opportunities to contribute to the development of new research directions and external funding.

The Person

The successful candidate will have a PhD in physics, astronomy, engineering or a related discipline and demonstrated expertise relevant to adaptive optics and instrumentation development, such as Laser Guide Star Adaptive Optics, wavefront sensing or real-time computing. They will also have a strong record of research demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications and collaboration.

We highly value experience in the design, development, fielding or operation of adaptive optics systems on large astronomical telescopes, as well as knowledge of project management and systems engineering. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator and collaborative team member, able to work across disciplinary and institutional boundaries, contribute to student supervision and engage with the broader research community.

The School

The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) is a world-leading centre for astronomical research and education at ANU, based at the historic Mount Stromlo Observatory in Canberra. RSAA conducts research spanning the breadth of astronomy and astrophysics, supported by world-class facilities, international collaborations and a strong focus on research-led education.
