Founded in 1993, the University of Los Lagos is the only public university in the spectacular Lakes region of Southern Chile. It was built on existing institutions which had grown out of the University of Chile and the Technical University. There had been higher education in Osorno from 1964, through the Professional Institute which spun off from the break-up of the Technical University in 1981, with other provision in Puerto Montt. Osorno remains the centre of the institution, with the main campus on a 22 hectare site in the town. There are other outposts at Cayhaique, in Chiloe Island and the national capital Santiago. A mission to train "professionals and technicians with solid knowledge, pluralistic and committed to their environment", also emphasises its role as a regional institution. More than 80 per cent of students come from the Lagos region. The University of Los Lagos is part of the 16-strong Chilean Sustainable Campus Network committed to both relevant research and to making their own operations sustainable. Course provision reflects the local economy, with Aquaculture among the 14 academic departments and fish farming outposts in Quinchao and Rio Sur and a 300 hectare forest in Barrio del Rio Bueno. Among the longer standing research centres is iMar, set up in 2002, which focusses on the environment and resource issues of coastal regions. Recent developments include a chair in cooperation and a diploma in business management aimed at the managers of cooperatives, created in partnership with nine such enterprises in the region. Planned developments include the creation of a $10m campus in Chiloe Island.

The Computing Religious Devotion project (CREDO; see https://www.levyna.cz/en/about-us/research/credo-project) is a five-year project (2024-2028) funded by the Czech Science Foundation and is based at Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic). The CREDO project develops a computational model of moral decision-making in which religious belief, consolidated through practice and institutional enforcement, forms strong cognitive priors that bias evidence accumulation and action selection during normative decisions. The empirical backbone of the project is a large-scale cross-cultural study spanning 20 societies and two religious traditions per site designed to establish how the beliefs, practices, and orthodoxy of distinct religious traditions translate into measurable differences in cognitive computations (to be launched in 2026). Specifically, the project aims to determine how religious priors shape the strength of ingroup cooperation and outgroup harm biases, and how exposure to interreligious conflict modulates the updating of those priors from incoming experiential evidence. The goal is a theoretically grounded, empirically validated model of how religious traditions shape the mind. The successful candidate will lead experimental testing of the predictions from the computational model of religious decision-making in cooperation with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Martin Lang and another postdoctoral researcher with skills in cognitive science of religion and cultural evolution. The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to work with large-scale behavioural datasets from 20 field sites, coordinating data quality and model fitting across a highly diverse sample, analyse the data and report them in a scientific paper. The successful candidate will also work in a fully equipped lab (EEG, fNIRS, BIOPAC) where they can design and test their own studies on the topic of normative decision-making. The candidate will be given significant responsibility and autonomy while also benefiting from the mentorship of the PI, playing a crucial role in forming the CREDO project as well as future research areas for the whole lab. Project summary An exciting opportunity is available to join the laboratories of Dr Salah Mansour and Dr Ali Roghanian at the University of Southampton. We are seeking a collaborative and motivated postdoctoral scientist to work on our Blood Cancer UK-funded programme developing next-generation, off-the-shelf immunotherapies for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). This three-year project will harness cytotoxic invariant Natural Killer T (iNKT) cells for precision targeting of AML, an aggressive leukaemia with poor survival outcomes. Building on strong preliminary data, it combines mechanistic and translational immunology with bespoke in vivo models to define and exploit therapeutically relevant subsets. The Research Fellow will lead studies on cytotoxic T cell mechanisms, oversee preclinical validation, and advance CAR-iNKT platforms optimised for AML immunotherapy. The role bridges basic and translational research and suits a creative scientist with interests in tumour immunology, T cell engineering, and immunotherapy. You will join a multidisciplinary team spanning immunology, and bioinformatics, with access to advanced flow cytometry, 10X Genomics, in vivo imaging platforms. Key responsibilities To work within the Mansour and Roghanian labs, and with collaborators at Southampton and beyond. To design, conduct, and analyse in vitro and in vivo immunology experiments. To lead the optimisation and functional assessment of human T cells and CAR T cells. To liaise and coordinate between project collaborators and core facilities. To record analyses accurately and present results at group meetings, national, and international conferences. To contribute to dissemination of findings through publications and grant applications. To supervise and support junior researchers and students. Any other duties appropriate to the scope and grade of the post.
