Basic information and contact details for the University of Laghouat
University of Laghouat is based in the city of Laghouat, 250 miles south of the capital city of Algiers.
The university was established in 1986 with classes in civil, mechanical and electrical engineering. Significant development came with the introduction of the first postgraduate courses in 1995. It became a university centre in 1997 and achieved full university status in 2001.
The university has faculties of technology, science, medicine, letters and languages, human civilisation and Islamic society, social science, law and political science, economics and commercial science, civil engineering and architecture, and The Institute for the Science and Technology of Sport and Physical Activity.
The medical school, which launched in 2014, covers medical education for the provinces of Laghouat, Djelfa and Ghardaia. Its building was featured on an Algeria postage stamp in 2016.
The 3,300 students of letters and languages are divided between Spanish, Arabic, English and French studies.
