Located on the shores of Lake Constance, at the northern foot of the Alps and just four kilometres away from the Swiss border, is Germany’s “boutique” University of Konstanz.

Opened in 1972, the university offers over 100 degree programmes to 10,000 students across three faculties in humanities, sciences, and law, economics and politics.

With over 250 international exchange programmes in place, the university prides itself on have a strong global outlook and collaborates with some of the most prestigious universities in the world, including Yale and Berkeley.

One of the university’s distinctive features is its replacement of large auditoriums in favour of small seminar rooms, allowing for a more individual and personalised style of teaching. It is also known for its compact campus where buildings are within close proximity to each other, facilitating multidisciplinary approaches to research and creative collaboration.

Equal opportunity and accessibility are paramount to Konstanz with the university providing its own Kinderhaus, or childcare centre, which supports those with families in obtaining degrees.

The university campus is located a short distance from the city centre, and cycling is a popular mode of transport for many students. Due to the city’s proximity to Lake Constance, students can take advantage of its beautiful scenery and access to a host of water sports. Additionally, Switzerland’s largest city Zurich, is only an hour away where students can get their fill of art and restaurants, bars and shops.
