We are committed to creating a centre of research excellence in the humanities and social sciences that is recognised within China and internationally. The School also aims to develop outreach and partnerships with domestic and international universities. The School of HSS researches and educates across different disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. The School, supported by over 90 academic staff from more than 17 countries, comprises five academic departments: the Department of Applied Linguistics, the Department of China Studies, the Department of International Studies, the Department of Media and Communication, and the Department of Literary and Translation Studies. This role reports directly to the University Vice President of Academic Affairs and serves as the chief academic and administrative leader of the School of HSS. The appointee is expected to provide energetic leadership and strategic direction in reshaping HSS education and research of the School, aligning with the University’s vision to become a leading reformer of HSS education in China and globally; in guiding the School in its diverse activities including undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum developments, research directions, academic partnerships, and industry linkages; and further advancing its global stature. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Advanced Academic Credentials: A PhD or equivalent degree in a field of the humanities and social sciences. This demonstrates a profound understanding of the academic environment and the ability to make significant contributions to research and teaching. Proven Research and Teaching Excellence: A strong record of scholarly research, evidenced by publications in top-tier, peer-reviewed international journals and prestigious presses in humanities and social sciences-related disciplines. A track record of effective teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, preferably in an international context. Academic Leadership Experience: Significant experience in academic administration, such as serving as a School Dean, associate Dean and department chair, or in similar leadership roles where they were responsible for overseeing staff, managing budgets, and developing academic programmes. Experience with staff development, curriculum design, research leadership, internationalisation and strategic planning. Global Perspective and International Experience: Experiences of working in international academic institutions. Familiarity with global higher education and cross-cultural management, as well as an understanding of how to adapt humanities and social sciences education to diverse cultural and economic contexts. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on a research project where you will be part of the research team to develop yeast and fungi for food ingredient and biochemical production. The specific goals are: Metabolic engineering of Yarrowia and Candida yeasts for organic acid production Design and optimization of fermentation method in 10L and 100L stirred tank vessels Key Responsibilities: Fulfill the primary responsibilities within the project: i. Deliver structured presentations of research plans and findings every two weeks. ii. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior research engineers and undergraduate students working in the same research field. iii. Prepare scientific manuscripts for reporting and potential publication (as first or co-author). Prepare writeup for new research grant application Support undergraduate lab class conduct where applied research outcomes are utilized in undergraduate teaching. Conduct thorough risk assessments and ensure adherence to work, safety, and health regulations for all research activities. Coordinate procurement activities with licensed vendors for research items. Job Requirements: Have a relevant PhD degree in Biochemistry or Biochemical Engineering Have at least 1 year experience with the metabolic engineering of Yarrowia and Candida yeasts, including foreign gene expression and gene deletion. Have at least 1 year experience with the use of bioreactor, HPLC-MS and GC-MS. Prior experience in the genetic manipulation of filamentous fungi cell line engineering is advantageous. Key Responsibilities Work with EETC team members and companies on energy assessment projects in industrial systems Assist and/or co-develop training in energy efficiency in industrial systems to adult learners and students Mentor students in energy assessment projects to enhance their technical problem-solving skills. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on a Pharmaceutical Innovation Programme Singapore research project where you will be part of a collaborative team exploring innovative ways of understanding extrusion processing for pharmaceutical drug materials and products using rheological measurements. Key Responsibilities In this role, you will characterize mixtures of pharmaceutical excipients and drug materials to develop methodologies for screening hot-melt extrusion formulations and selecting optimal operating conditions using rheology, with the objective of producing amorphous-solid-dispersions. You will validate the developed processing space and operating conditions for extruded pharmaceutical formulations using a lab-scale extruder. In collaboration with researchers at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART), you will characterize the physical properties and performance of intermediate pharmaceutical drug products. The created methods will be transferred to the industrial partner to enhance their product development process using rheological characterization. More specific responsibilities include: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake characterization of pharmaceutical active ingredients, polymeric excipients, and plasticizers for producing amorphous-solid-dispersions. Perform lab-scale hot-melt extrusion of pharmaceutical materials to validate predicted processing conditions and product outcomes. Collaborate with broader pharmaceutical research team at SMART. Design, execute, and interpret experiments independently. Author papers in high-quality journals in areas that are related to the research. Prepare and deliver reports and presentations for industrial partners Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team. Job Requirements Have deep hands-on experience with at least one of the areas of polymer rheology, extrusion processing, pharmaceutical engineering with small molecules. Relevant competence in the areas of wet lab work, analytical instrumentation, material science and formulation Have an advanced degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, or a related field. Knowledge of any of the following will be advantageous: rheology, physical characterisation, crystallisation, polymer melts, extrusion, material physics.
