Founded in 1785, the University of Georgia (UGA) is a land and sea grant university, and the first state-chartered university in America. Based in Athens, Georgia, and roughly 60 miles northeast of state capital Atlanta’s downtown, UGA lays claim to being the birthplace of the American system of public higher education.

UGA is made up of 17 academic schools and colleges, the first of which to be established was the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences in 1801, and the most recent being the College of Engineering, in 2012.

The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication is home to the Peabody Awards programme, which is widely considered to be one of the leading awards in electronic media.

UGA has a student enrolment of around 36,000, the majority of which is made up by around 27,500 undergraduate students and the remainder by 8,500 graduates.

The university offers 25 baccalaureate degrees in over140 fields, 34 masters in 130 fields, specialist education degrees in 18 fields, four doctoral degrees in 98 areas, and professional degrees in law, pharmacy and veterinary medicine.

Additionally, UGA offers in excess of 170 study abroad and exchange programmes. It also has three international residential centres based in Oxford (England), Cortana (Italy) and in Costa Rica.

UGA is home to many of the state’s most notable landmarks and places of interest, including the Georgia State Botanical Garden, the Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural History, and the Georgia Writer’s Hall of Fame.

The university has an annual budget of nearly $1.5 billion, roughly 27 per cent of which is provided by the state of Georgia. Further to that, it has an intellectual property income of $6.6 million and research spending that is externally funded amounting to around $203 million.

It has an active student body and is home to more than 600 registered student organisations, including 32 fraternities and 26 sororities.

Its alumni network numbers around 300,000, and many of its students have been Rhodes Scholars.

About the role The purpose of the role is to deliver a full award management function, including reports on work in progress and project monitoring as required and will report progress to Senior Research Grants Administrator and Research Grants Manager. Clinical Research Associate in the Department of Psychosis Studies

About us The Department of Psychosis Studies is the world’s leading department for research into psychotic disorders by high impact publications. It is part of the IoPPN; the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease. The IoPPN produces more highly cited outputs (top 1% citations) on psychiatry and mental health than any other centre (SciVal 2021). The IoPPN's greatest strength is the interdisciplinary nature of both its research strategy and educational activities, providing unique opportunities for students and staff. About the role The postholder will join exciting new studies in the group. These include testing the synaptic hypothesis of psychosis and the role of excitation-inhibition balance in psychotic disorders and testing how the first non-D2 antipsychotics work. The studies involve in vivo imaging with cutting edge PET and fMRI techniques and clinical trials. The postholders will be responsible for recruitment and clinical assessment of participants with psychosis, including clinical rating scales and delivering a high level of care to research participants. They will be responsible for organising and acquiring imaging and other measures and producing scoping literature reviews. The postholders will be responsible for ensuring high quality research governance across projects, helping to analyse, interpret and publish the results of projects, as well as helping to support students who will be working on the projects. The postholders will be responsible for maintaining accurate records within a database that can be shared with members of the wider research team. They are also responsible for organising and overseeing weekly case and control tracking meetings, as well as quarterly steering group meetings. The postholders will be responsible for ensuring effective collaborative relationships with other research worders on the project, as well as with local clinical services and researchers on other related projects. The postholders will be responsible for contributing to knowledge exchange and dissemination activities such as organising and participating in scientific meetings and to support all other aspects of the projects as required. There will also be opportunities to get clinical experience. This is a full time (40 hours per week) however the department can consider part-time applications. You will be offered a fixed term contract for 1 year (with the potential to extend/ develop a PhD; subject to funding).  Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7.
