The Doctoral School Computer Science provides the option of performance-based contract extensions (up to 6 months) to doctoral students who previously had a position as university assistant (prae doc) or as third-party funded researcher (prae doc) at the University of Vienna. This completion contract is meant to support a high-qualified DoCS fellow in the final phase of the doctoral studies. The successful applicant will get a contract as university assistant (prae doc) and will be working in the research group “Visualization and Data Analysis” at the Faculty of Computer Science. Description We are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health, or a related discipline in the social sciences. The appointment will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and is available for up to three years. The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professor Stéphane Helleringer. The collaborative research will be on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries, with an emphasis on measurement issues and the impact of crises such as epidemics and disasters. The job entails conducting high-quality research on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries. This includes conceptualizing research questions, designing empirical studies, collecting or acquiring new data sets, and analyzing these data using advanced statistical models and visualization techniques. The job also emphasizes the dissemination of knowledge about population health, particularly through the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts, software packages and/or participation in international conferences. Candidates must hold a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health or related discipline in the social sciences. The ideal candidate is preferred to have prior experience with data collection and collaboration in low-and-middle-income countries and good knowledge of R or other software for data management, analysis and visualization. The position does not require teaching, but it may be possible to get teaching experience for compensation.
