It may be noted that English is the working language and the primary medium of instruction at UM. The Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Head of Department of Portuguese (at the rank of Full/Associate Professor). The Department of Portuguese is an established and lively scholarly community. The Department offers an undergraduate degree in Portuguese Studies concentrating on Portuguese with selected courses in Language, Linguistics, Literature, Culture, History and Translation. At the undergraduate level, the Department also teaches Portuguese language within the Faculty of Law and offers elective courses in Portuguese as a foreign language to students from all faculties of the University. At the postgraduate level, the Department offers two Master programmes (i) Portuguese Language and Intercultural Studies; (ii) Translation Studies (Portuguese-Chinese), as well as one PhD programme covering various areas of Portuguese Studies. Qualifications The successful applicant will possess: A PhD in any area of Portuguese Studies: Linguistics, Literature, Culture, Translation or Language Teaching, or related areas; Demonstrable competence in departmental management, planning, and communication, along with the ability to provide leadership within the Department; An outstanding track record of internationally recognized research and scholarship; Experience and success in supervising postgraduate students and a proven track record of excellence in teaching; Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese and the experience in teaching the above-mentioned subjects; A good command of English; knowledge of Chinese is an advantage. The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in 2027. Remuneration A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Engineering Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) works closely with industry in its research pursuits. This position is situated within the SIT x NVIDIA AI Centre (SNAIC). This role is part of an industry innovation project with a large consumer goods company, where you will develop an evaluation framework for vision-language model (VLM) with applications in the personal care sector. The research focuses on fine-grained VLM capabilities such as spatial reasoning, temporal grounding, event tracking, and domain knowledge using a curated multimodal dataset. Key Responsibilities Manage the research project together with the Principal Investigator (PI) and industry partner to ensure all project deliverables are met Design and implement evaluation frameworks and metrics for vision-language models Develop annotated video datasets and capability-tagged evaluation tasks Build end-to-end evaluation pipelines and failure mode analysis tools to analyze VLM performance across reasoning dimensions Prepare technical reports, publications, and industry-facing deliverables Mentor student assistants Candidates are to communicate with any internal or external parties to ensure project deliverables are met. Part time 0.6FTE Fixed Term until 24/12/2030 Bundoora Campus Salary from $118,530 plus 17% superannuation (pro-rata) About the position A Level B academic with a teaching focussed appointment will work without the need for close supervision and is expected to develop curriculum, coordinate subjects, teach and support students as they learn. In addition, a teaching focussed academic will support the administrative functions of the nursing and/or midwifery disciplines as well as undertake scholarly work relevant to the development of learning and teaching in their designated role, discipline or professional field. In the School of Nursing and Midwifery, students are required to complete clinical placements that vary between three and five weeks in duration.
