We are seeking a Senior Quality Officer, to assist the Director of Quality in the delivery of the functions of the Office. The role will require external engagement with agencies such as Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), as well as working with the University’s Quality Committee and other Offices in the University. The tasks undertaken will be varied but the focus will be on policy and process development, in light of changing external contexts, for both quality assurance and enhancement. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.

Salary:

Administrative Officer I (2026): €60,410 – € 86,192 p.a. (9 points)

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.

The Vienna Doctoral School in Physics is home to 180 doctoral candidates in Physics at the University of Vienna who work at the forefront of science and receive training, mentoring and support to become independent researchers and to connect with the scientific community.

Your personal sphere of influence:

The Vienna Doctoral School in Physics offers up to nine 3-months PhD Completion Contracts for fellows of the Doctoral School who have held a position as University Assistant (praedoc) or as PhD project staff at the University of Vienna before. These Completion Contracts aim to support highly qualified fellows in the final phase of their doctoral studies. The recipients will be employed as University Assistants (praedoc) and will work at the Faculty of Physics. The start of the contracts is possible from 01 October 2026 onwards - the Fellowship must be completed within the year 2026.

Your future tasks:


	You actively participate in research, teaching & administration at the Faculty of Physics.
	Your main task is to complete and to submit your dissertation.
	You meet and consult with your supervisor(s) on a regular basis in order to prioritize your tasks and get the necessary support to complete your dissertation successfully in time.
	You actively seek support (workshops, training, coaching etc.) if necessary.

		All required annual progress reports BSP/V02E (formlerly called DZ/V02) and VDSP reports submitted.
		All compulsory coursework successfully completed.
		Participated in all required VDSP mentor meetings (at least once per year).
	
	
	Commitment to complete your doctoral studies within the anticipated time (within 3 months).
	Excellent academic record.


What we offer:

We offer you the unique opportunity to complete your scientific education and early career research training with your written PhD thesis in a focused effort that allows you to succeed.

The monthly gross salary for 40 hours/week for VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (prae doc) is € 3.776,10. Please note that the advertised Completion Fellowships are for 30 hours/week VwGr. B1 (prae doc), with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Are you passionate about science and the life of an experimental scientist? Do you want to shift the boundaries of scientific knowledge? Are you technically skilled around real-world laboratory experiments, and a genuine team player? Then consider joining the Quantum Nanophysics team.

Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant (praedoc) on this 4-year position, you will be part of the Quantum Nanophysics Team (QNP) around Prof. Markus Arndt. Our group is working on experiments at the interface between quantum and classical physics as well as between quantum and bio-molecular science. We develop universal matter-wave interferometry in the limit of high mass and high complexity, from organic molecules to metal clusters and dielectric nanoparticles from molecular beams to levitated optomechanics.

We work on novel tools for quantum sensing, mass spectrometry and biomolecular chemistry.

Our team is member of the Austrian Cluster of Excellence (qAustria), of the Vienna Doctoral School in Physics (VDSP), of the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ) and of the faculty research group on Quantum Science. You will be part of a thriving community with more than 100 quantum scientists on premise, about 300 in Vienna and more than 600 quantum researchers  across Austria.

The QNP team unites a team of 15 -17 scientists (Master student, PhD student, postdoc, senior scientist), currently of six different nations,  which are inspired by working together on solving technical challenges to advance fundamental questions of quantum science. Together we have a unique skill set and knowledge base in quantum interferometry, molecular science, opto-mechanics, quantum sensing, particle beam methods, laser technology, physical chemistry. Working with us means learning something new every day.

You will be affiliated with the research project, with the working title Q4-BIO, where we open a new field of research around quantum tools for and quantum physics with neutral biomolecules. This comprises for instance the development of new cold beam sources, quantum detectors , quantum coherent beam splitters, explorations of spin physics and quantum delocalization in complex molecules. The experiment will move into a dedicated new laboratory in 2027.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	You are involved in a specific research project, here Q4-BIO.
	You will present your research plan to the faculty and complete a dissertation agreement within 12-18 months. This will be reviewed and adapted on an annual basis.
	You will work on your dissertation and aim at a completion in 4 years. We expect a high degree of independence paired with a high level of social competence to be successful in the team.
	You will contribute to teaching (lab courses, exercise classes) within the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
	You will fill some administrative tasks, contributing to the success and self-organization of the group for research, teaching and administration.
	You will continuously stay informed about the state of the art in your field.
	You contribute to outreach by publications, conference presentations and public activities.


This is part of your personality:


	You must have completed your Master's degree or Diploma in physics before you start your position at the University of Vienna, or hold an equivalent qualification that allows enrollment as a PhD student at the University of Vienna by that date.
	Because we design and build our research machines ourselves, you must have extended hands-on experience in at least two of the following areas:
	
		molecular beam sources,
		(cryogenic) ultra-high-vacuum systems,
		superconducting nanowire detectors,
		advanced optics, laser systems and frequency conversion, 
		mass spectrometry or matter-wave research.
	
	


Demonstrable experimental design, construction and troubleshooting skills in the laboratory are essential - please document them in your application.

About the opportunity

The Clinical Research Midwife supports the clinical trial process, from planning to execution, ensuring a seamless transition through all stages.  The midwife will support the HEaT inform study being conducted in the climate chamber at The University of Sydney and investigating pregnant women's physiological responses to different temperature conditions. They handle data capture, verification, and overall adherence to standards while fostering relationships with research staff and stakeholders. They ensure Good Clinical Practice and that every aspect of the trial meets the highest ethical and scientific standards.  Provide clinical care within scope of registration and professional practice, where required as part of the study protocol, including responding to medical events or emergencies during study activities.

Reporting to Professor Adrienne Gordon, your key responsibilities will be to:


	support the end-to-end clinical trial process, assisting with the planning, initiation, and execution of trials, and ensuring smooth operations
	provide clinical care within scope of registration and professional practice, as required under the study protocol
	capture data and verification for clinical trials, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with regulations, in accordance with ethics guidelines and workplace health and safety regulations, preparing materials for committee submissions
	build productive relationships with research staff, trial sponsors, and external vendors, facilitating effective communication and collaboration
	uphold the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in all clinical trials, ensuring that ethical and scientific quality standards are met in design, conduct, recording, and reporting

About you

We are seeking an exceptional Clinical Research Midwife, who possesses:


	tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience in midwifery practice
	current Registered Midwife with APHRA with post graduate midwifery experience.
	previous experience in research with a focus on management of clinical studies/trials
	demonstrated commitment to professional development
	an understanding of issues related to adverse obstetric outcomes: particularly in relation to fetal growth restriction, pre-eclampsia, preterm delivery and stillbirth
	experience with antenatal patient interaction
