An exciting opportunity to join the university’s central Safety, Health and Environment Department is available for a highly motivated individual, to help meet the growing demands of a modern, outward-facing university. Reporting to the Associate Director, Safety, Health and Environment, you will provide an advisory and monitoring service on the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and relevant successor fire safety legislation or standards, to ensure a coordinated strategic approach to the management of fire safety risk, the achievement of a positive culture and high standards of fire safety performance. Within this collaborative, cross-discipline team, you will undertake the functions of a ‘competent person’; conduct and review fire risk assessments; review building fire strategies; conduct DSEAR Risk Assessments; and review the university’s Fire Risk Management Plan and relevant Policy documents. In addition, you will carry out fire safety audits and inspections of university buildings; deliver fire safety training; devise emergency plans for university buildings; communicate and implement annual fire drill programmes; advise on fire risk management to Faculties and Professional Services; and liaise with our Estate Development Department concerning building alterations, passive fire detection and firefighting equipment. Key to success in this role will be a consultative and facilitative style of service delivery, with resilience to ensure that failings are challenged and resolved, with the ability to build internal and external relationships, based on trust and confidence, to engender a co-operative and collaborative environment. You will be a graduate, or have relevant experience, with membership of a relevant professional organisation and qualified to Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety, or IFE Level 4 Certificate in Fire Science or Fire Safety, or CFPA Level 4 Diploma, or other recognised professional qualification. You will also be on a nationally recognised Fire Risk Assessors register. About the role The Doctoral Landscape Awards (DLA) Hub Manager will be responsible for the management of the AHRC DLA Hub G (London and East of England), including finance and budget management The Hub consists of 12 HEIs with King’s being the Hub Lead. You will be the key contact point for all Hub members, planning and co-ordinating the shared Postgraduate Research training and cohort development activities and ensuring effective access to the Hub training offer to all PGR students at King’s and the Hub partner institutions. You will implement and oversee a booking system that enables all Hub PGRs to register on training events and activities across the Hub, and enable effective promotion, recording and monitoring of training activity attendance.
