The University of Caxias do Sul (the Universidade de Caxias do Sul or UCS) was established in 1967 and is now one of the biggest and oldest universities in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, with 37,000 students. Built with concerted and collected efforts from the local community, it is still run with the commitment and engagement to all sections of society who see higher education as a source of social development. Represented by a board of directors of the supporting Foundation by public authorities, from a city, state and federal level, as well as by entities representing civil society groups. The Universidade de Caxias do Sul’s main campus is located in Caxias do Sul, however it has satellite campuses are in Bento Goncalves, Vacaria, Farrouphilia, Guapore, Nova Prata, Sao Sebastiao do Cai, Canela and Veranopolis. In 1995, Fundacao Universidade de Caxias do Sul created Centro Tecnologico Universidade de Caxias do Sul, which is a high school and vocational educational school with teaching units in Caxias do Sul and Bento Goncalves. All teaching programmes are taught in Portuguese. Caxias do Sul forms part of the Serra Gaúcha, which is known for its wine tasting and grape-growing. This region has the largest contingent of Italian immigrants in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and is known for its Grape Festival, which takes place every two years. There are strong Italian and other immigrant traditions and histories mingled with gaúcho (regional), which is reflected in the Immigrant National Monument, in the Municipal Museum, and in the Museu de Ambiência Casa de Pedra, a beautiful example of the city's Italian architecture. The demonym of the citizens of Caxias do Sul is Caxiense.

The University of Southampton in collaboration with Gham Power and Swanbarton have secured a short-term project to develop the Soluble Lead Flow Battery for installation at Gahme Power in Nepal. As a result we are seeking to appoint a fixed term 4-month research fellow to facilitate and deliver a programme of research testing aerogel thermal barrier materials within proxy and actual battery environments. You will be an mechanical engineer who holds a PhD degree or is submitting a PhD thesis before September 2026 with evidenced-supported experience of testing materials. Knowledge of electorchemcial process and physical materials properties is an advantage.  You will join a large and friendly Mechanical Engineering department and work within the Energy Technology Research Group. The project will benefit from close collaboration with other researchers and with colleagues in the collaborative project. The Faculty of Educational Sciences invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher for a fixed-term appointment for 3 years, starting in September 2026 or as agreed. The position is embedded in the AI-EMOTION project (Academic emotions in the AI learning era). AI-EMOTION is a European Research Council (ERC) funded project at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki, led by Principal Investigator Dr. Elina Ketonen. We investigate what happens emotionally when students use AI tools in learning: how affect influences engagement, motivation and interaction in AI-mediated learning situations. The project brings together expertise from learning sciences, computer science and psychophysiology. Our aim is to advance theory on affective processes in human-computer interaction and to develop novel multimodal methods to measure and model emotions in real-world learning environments.  Job description The successful candidate will investigate academic emotions and emotional well-being in technology-mediated learning, with a focus on psychophysiological indicators of emotions in ecologically valid learning settings. The position contributes to the AI-EMOTION project by combining wearable sensor data (e.g., cardiac and electrodermal signals) with event-based self-reports (experience sampling). A central task is to drive methodological development by advancing and validating sensor data processing and feature extraction workflows, and by developing approaches to integrate these outputs with self-reports to model students’ emotions beyond laboratory settings. The work duties of the selected candidate include:  Planning and implementing data collection in real-world learning contexts (including wearable-sensor measurements and experience sampling via smartphones)  Processing and analyzing wearable-sensor data (e.g., preprocessing, artefact handling, feature extraction, synchronization/alignment with experience-sampling prompts)  Statistical modelling and analyses of collected multimodal data (e.g., within-person dynamics, multilevel models, dynamic models/time-series approaches)  Publishing results in high-quality international scientific journals and presenting findings at major conferences  Supporting project coordination and administration as agreed (e.g., contributing to reporting, documentation, data management practices, project deliverables)  Teamwork within the multidisciplinary research group (e.g., learning sciences, educational psychology, computer science)  Small-scale supervision and/or teaching tasks as agreed (e.g., co-supervision of theses, supporting research training within the project).  Qualification requirements and selection criteria We are looking for a creative and forward-thinking post doc who has (or is close to completing) a PhD in a relevant field (e.g., educational sciences, psychology, cognitive science, health sciences/biomedical engineering, data science) and demonstrate the ability to conduct independent, innovative and high-quality research. The successful candidate should have expertise in psychophysiological measurement and/or wearable-sensor data analysis, including signal processing and feature extraction, and a strong interest in studying emotions and well-being in technology-mediated learning, with a particular focus on AI. Excellent written and spoken English, as well as strong communication and collaboration skills, are essential given the interdisciplinary nature of the project. Experience with multimodal data integration, research with relevance to the project area and demonstrated experience of methodological development are considered merits. The position involves some fieldwork with study participants across the University of Helsinki’s campuses during the data collection, and regular on-site work at the University of Helsinki City Centre Campus. Your personal sphere of influence The University of Vienna Research Platform ‘Trustworthy Science Communication’ announces a PhD position  at the Department of Communication.  Members of the research platform will conduct science communication research with a specific focus on the question of trust in science. This research will be interdisciplinary, and led by researchers in Communication Science, Computer Science, Psychology, and Science and Technology Studies. Together, we will examine public trust in science through cutting-edge research on science communication. Our research will be built on the understanding that public trust in science is complex, shaped by perceptions of trustworthiness, communication practices, and shifting social and political contexts. Trust cannot be assumed or manufactured; it must be earned through consistent integrity, transparency, and responsiveness. Because political developments, media narratives, and societal change continually challenge the relationship between science and the public, trust must be actively maintained. Addressing this challenge requires an interdisciplinary approach, as trust in science is conceptualized differently across fields. By integrating these perspectives, this platform aims to advance research on the foundations and practice of trustworthy science communication. Applicants should be able to demonstrate interest in or experience with public science communication, the capacity to carry out interdisciplinary research, and the research skills necessary to complete a PhD. The successful candidate for this position will be employed by the University of Vienna and their research project will be supervised by an interdisciplinary supervisory team from the University of Vienna. The position is advertised to the extent of 30 hours/week (75%) for a period of four years. The anticipated start date is in June 2026. Your future tasks You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means: Conduct science communication research focusing on how mediated communication and public discourse shape trust in science; we in particular aim to examine the political dimensions of science communication, including how political actors use scientific knowledge to legitimize ideas and how science communication is entangled with broader information challenges such as mis- and disinformation and societal polarization. We expect you to join the Vienna Doctoral School of Social Sciences and conclude a doctoral thesis agreement within 12 months. You work on your dissertation and its completion.
