The University of Canberra is a young, up-and-coming university located in Australia’s national capital. With more than 300 undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees spanning across 28 broad areas of study, our students are prepared for any environment upon their graduation.

As we continue to reach new heights in world rankings and further our reach regionally, nationally and internationally, we are increasingly recognised as one of Australia’s most innovative tertiary institutions. The University of Canberra boasts 11 fields of research at or above world standard and our world-leading Environmental Sciences discipline received the highest ranking possible in the Excellence in Research for Australia rankings in 2015.

Ranked in the ‘Top 150 Under 50’ by Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015, the University of Canberra is rapidly becoming the university of choice for students, staff and researchers looking to make their mark on the world.

Our cutting-edge sport facilities, the state-of-the art public hospital currently under construction and our vibrant and exciting campus atmosphere provide a foundation for a rewarding university experience.

The University is proud of its academic, professional and personal support systems. We deliver a professional education focused on equipping students with the skills they need to excel in their careers. Our strong emphasis on work-integrated learning gives many of our 16,500 students valuable experience in the workplace before they graduate.

Our purpose is clear; to provide transformative education experiences, engage in high quality research and creative practice and let these combined endeavours contribute to a just, prosperous and sustainable community.

OUR RESEARCH

The University of Canberra’s researchers are committed to delivering breakthroughs that help solve real-world problems and collaborate with national and international partners to produce broad reach research both locally and globally.

While the University of Canberra carries out valuable research across a variety of fields, we take particular pride in our flagship projects in governance, environment, communication, education, health and sport and push the boundaries of knowledge and understanding through our key research institutes:

  • The Institute for Applied Ecology enjoys an international reputation in invasive species management, conservation genetics and freshwater ecology; it excels at sophisticated ecological modelling and the use of ‘big data’.
  • The Institute for Governance and Policy Analysis has the largest concentration of internationally recognised governance and public policy scholars in Australia. Its expertise extends to political sciences, public administration, applied economics, micro-simulation, policy modelling, public policy and law.
  • The Research Institute for Sport and Exercise has significant research strengths in high performance sport; rugby research; physical literacy; sport design and technology; and sport and exercise medicine and regularly collaborates with the Australian Institute of Sport and Australia’s elite athletes.
  • The Health Research Institute is committed to addressing real-world problems in health and wellbeing throughout the lifespan; biomedical discovery for disease prevention and treatment; healthcare systems and health services research; and technology for improved health and well-being.

We have a wide selection of undergraduate and postgraduate courses that will help boost your skills, further your qualifications and enhance your career opportunities. We take pride in our contemporary and collaborative degrees, and provide students with the opportunity to work alongside leading industry experts throughout their study.
