The University of Camerino (Unicam) has a history that dates as far back as 1336 when the "Studium Generale" was established. In 1727 Pope Benedictus XIII renamed the university ‘Universitas Studii Generalis’. In 1958 the university became a state university and is now known as the University of Camerino.

The university is located in Camerino, a small town in central-eastern Italy. Camerino is situated in the province of Macerata in Italy’s Marche region.

Whilst its main campus is situated in Camerino, the university has three other campuses in Ascoli Piceno, Matelica, and San Benedetto del Tronto.

The university is equipped with a selection of libraries, a sports centre, and a planetarium. It is also home to a Museum of Sciences, as well as beautiful botanical gardens.

There are five schools at the university: the school of architecture and design, school of law, school of pharmacy, school of science and technology, and the school of biosciences and veterinary medicine. Within each school are a number of departments offering a range of undergraduate and graduate degrees.

The School of Advanced Studies offers PhD courses in the following areas: architecture, design and planning, chemical and pharmaceutical sciences and biotechnology, computer science and mathematics, legal and social sciences, life and health sciences, and physics, earth and materials science.
