The University of Batna 2 was established in 1977 as the University of Batna. In July 2015, it a presidential decree called for a restructure, resulting in two separate universities, the University of Batna 1 and the University of Batna 2. The university is situated in the Algerian city of Batna. Batna is the primary city and municipality of Batna Province, ranking as the fifth largest city in the country. The university is made up of eight faculties: earth and universe sciences, mathematics and computer science, medicine, science and techniques of sports and physical activities, nature and life sciences, industrial hygiene and security, technology, and foreign languages. Each faculty houses various departments offering a range of degree programmes at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Research constitutes a significant aspect of the university's activities through the Advanced Automation and Systems Analysis Laboratory, the Innovation Laboratory in Construction, Eco-design and Seismic Engineering, and the Risk Management Laboratory for Healthcare-related Infections. To enhance the student experience, the university has organised partnerships with higher education institutions worldwide, such as Singapore University Karawang in Indonesia and Hanyang University in Korea, as well as universities in Mexico, Japan, Romania, and Tunisia.
