Candidates should have a strong scholarly track record, including high-quality research and publications in leading academic journals, and demonstrate the ability to contribute to the Department’s research and teaching in population-related areas. The Department is particularly interested in applicants with expertise in areas such as low fertility societies, family and life-course dynamics, migration, health and mortality, and computational, digital or AI-related approaches to population research. The Department was ranked 24th in the world in Sociology in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. The Hub focuses on multi-disciplinary research concerning various population-related issues and public policy, addressing the global needs for theoretical, methodological, and practical advancements in population and health research. The Hub aims to strengthen theoretical, methodological, and policy-relevant research in population and health studies. It serves as a University-wide platform for collaboration among population scientists, promotes the dissemination of cutting-edge interdisciplinary research, and facilitates dialogue between academia, policymakers, and the wider community on evidence-based population policies. What We Offer A competitive remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. The appointments will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching) (tenure-track) in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The anticipated start date is 1 July 2026, or a mutually agreed-upon date. Qualifications and requirements Applicants must hold a DVM (or equivalent) or a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. The successful candidates will contribute to laboratory-based and didactic teaching in veterinary anatomy and may contribute to other teaching activities in the DVM programme as required. Experience teaching large undergraduate cohorts in a laboratory setting is expected, and candidates should provide evidence of effectiveness in this context. Expertise in the comparative anatomy of common domestic species is required. UCVM's anatomy instruction is supported by a team of technicians and a fully equipped laboratory capable of producing teaching specimens using a variety of preservation techniques including large format plastination Experience in course leadership, development and management is an asset, and experience in supervising technical staff activities and creating teaching specimens is highly desirable. Appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching) (tenure-track) requires evidence or promise of teaching effectiveness or competency in teaching and learning, an awareness of how to apply scholarly approaches to teaching and learning practices, participation in reflective practice, and professional learning activities related to teaching and learning.
