Description We are inviting applications for a Post-doctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in Economics focusing on Macro, Labor and/or Development Economics. The appointment is for 2 years and will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and UAE visa acquisition by the prospective post-doctoral candidate. The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professor Pauline Corblet and Professor Samreen Malik. The collaborative research will be on labor and education economics with a particular focus on structural models tied with labor market surveys to study the role of beliefs in the labor market in both developed and developing economies. We seek a candidate with expertise in both empirical and theoretical economics, with good coding skills. The role will involve designing surveys, working with existing datasets, and applying structural models relating to human capital development and labor markets. The position does not require teaching, but it may be possible to get teaching experience for compensation. The department provides access to well-equipped research facilities, including an isotope laboratory with dedicated sample preparation, ultra-microbalance, and clean-lab rooms; an osteology laboratory with extensive teaching and comparative collections; and a forensic laboratory equipped with advanced 3D human morphology acquisition systems and biological data processing platforms. These infrastructures support interdisciplinary research and advanced analytical training. The Department comprises 20 faculty members and researchers actively engaged in research, teaching, and international scientific collaboration, providing a dynamic environment for postdoctoral development. The BITE Brno project, funded by the Czech Science Foundation, investigates the biological and biosocial dimensions of urbanization in Brno between the 9th and 19th centuries through an integrated bioarchaeological framework. It combines demographic, health, and landscape perspectives to explore how urbanization shaped population structure and lived experiences over the longue durée. By focusing on a single urban setting and treating multiple burial grounds as components of a coherent population, the project enables the analysis of large-scale patterns (ca. 1,000 individuals) using complementary state-of-the-art analytical approaches within a collaborative research framework. The position specifically focuses on reconstructing demographic structures and mobility patterns to better understand biological responses to urbanization. The BITE Brno project invites applications from qualified candidates to support and advance the project’s research objectives. Job Description: Key Duties: Lead and coordinate the paleodemographic analysis of a large archaeological human skeletal assemblage. Perform sex and age-at-death estimation (adults and non-adults) using established osteological methods. Apply and/or contribute to the development of complementary approaches (e.g. cementochronology, proteomic sex estimation). Work efficiently on a large dataset while ensuring analytical consistency and data quality. Participate in the integration of demographic data with other project datasets (e.g. isotopic, paleopathological, and archaeological data). Contribute to statistical analyses and interpretation of population structure in relation to urbanization. Ensure high standards of data recording, consistency, and quality control across the assemblage. Prepare and co-author scientific publications and project outputs within project timelines. Collaborate with project partners and contribute to student supervision when relevant. Skills and Qualifications: Required selection criteria: PhD in anthropology, bioarchaeology, biological anthropology, palaeobiology, or a related field. Ability to work efficiently and independently on large osteological datasets. Strong organizational skills and attention to data quality and consistency. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The researcher will be part of the team of the MCCS NATURE Project (https://www.nparks.gov.sg/Cuge/Programmes-Schemes/Research%20Programmes/MCCS%20Programme). The primary role involves developing and validating CFD models to study wave attenuation by mangroves, seagrass, and coral. Responsibilities include calibrating simulations with experimental data, analyzing shear coefficients and drag forces, and contributing to interdisciplinary research on coastal protection, with an emphasis on delivering accurate and impactful modeling insights. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: 1. Wave Stochastic Analysis and Hydrodynamics Conduct advanced stochastic analysis of wave environments to evaluate the performance of floating structures.  Analyze hydrodynamic behavior of floating breakwaters under varied sea conditions. 2. CFD and Finite Element Modeling Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize the design and performance of floating breakwaters. Develop finite element models for stability assessment, structural integrity, and dynamic response of floating systems. 3. Connector Design Design and analyze mechanical connectors for the integration of multi-purpose floating breakwater systems, ensuring structural stability and durability. 4. Design and Integration Develop innovative designs for floating breakwaters that integrate wave energy converters (WECs), tidal energy systems, and solar energy platforms. Optimize design configurations to maximize energy harnessing and wave attenuation. 5. Experimental Testing Plan and conduct physical model tests in wave flumes or basins to validate computational models. Analyze experimental data to improve and validate the floating breakwater design. 6. Research Documentation and Dissemination: Prepare technical reports, research papers, and presentations to disseminate findings to academic and industry stakeholders. Contribute to project proposals and progress updates for funding agencies. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. 7. Project Management Support: Ensure timely execution of project milestones Coordinate with external collaborators and manage data-sharing protocols. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements PhD/Master’s in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field. Proficiency in hydrodynamic modeling tools (e.g., ANSYS AQWA, OrcaFlex) and finite element analysis software (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS). Experience with stability and mooring system design.
