Founded in 1852, the university of agronomic sciences and veterinary medicine of Bucharest is the oldest and largest institution of higher agronomic education in Romania. It was originally established as the Panteleimon agricultural institute. In 1915, the institute became herăstrău agricultural college and in 1929 it was renamed the academy of higher agronomic education of Bucharest. Nine years later, the academy became the faculty of agriculture within the București Polytechnic Institute. In 1948 the București Agronomic Institute was established with the faculties of agriculture, horticulture and agriculture mechanization. In 1992 the institute was granted full university status and became the București University of Agronomic Sciences. It was renamed the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest in 1996. The university is located in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Situated in the south-east part of the country, Bucharest is considered a major cultural, financial, entertainment, and media hub. Known for its elegant early 20th century architecture, Bucharest is rich with history and culture and is attracting increasing numbers of tourists every year. There are seven faculties within the university: faculty of agriculture, faculty of horticulture, faculty of biotechnologies, faculty of veterinary medicine, faculty of animal productions, engineering and management, faculty of land reclamation and environmental engineering, and the faculty of management, economic engineering in agriculture and rural development. Each faculty is divided into different departments, which offer a wide range of degree programmes at bachelors, master's and doctoral level. The university boasts nine research centres and one research institute, including the research centre for sustainable agriculture, the research centre for rural engineering and environmental protection, and the institute for poultry research.

The School of Computer Science and Mathematics within the Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology and Science seeks to appoint at Senior Lecturer or Senior Teaching Fellow level in the field of Software Engineering. Whilst this is a broad area, we would particularly welcome applicants who have experience in cloud computing, data science, software design, software development, artificial intelligence (agentic development), secure software development, mobile or web development, embedded systems, software testing or databases. The role will require delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the School and the specific development of the area of software engineering to ensure our curriculum is up-to-date and meeting the needs of employers and applicants. You will also be expected to make broad contributions to the academic work of the School of Computer Science and Mathematics in the fields of computing and computer science. In addition, you may contribute to the development and delivery of outreach and engagement initiatives as well as interdisciplinary project areas. You are likely to have a background in software development and/or computer science with a PhD in a related subject and/or relevant professional experience from industry. Appointment will be made at Grade 8 based on the experience of suitable applicants. The university has created a new academic career pathway for staff in academic roles. The structure focuses on career pathways, these being: Academic (Lecturer role) – members of staff whose responsibilities encompass both discipline-based research and teaching and learning Academic, Teaching & Learning (Teaching Fellow role) – members of staff whose responsibilities are primarily teaching-focused, including pedagogic research. The Opportunity The Strategic Lead will support the establishment and strategic direction of the Centre for Innovation in Teaching, contributing to its growth as a key capability across the University.
