Position Details Continuing | Full-Time Higher Education Officer Level 6 | $92,287 - $98,398 pa | 17% Super Location: Bedford Park, Kaurna Country View Position Description About the Role We are seeking a highly organised and technically skilled Senior Technical Officer, to provide leadership and coordination of technical services for teaching and research laboratories within the College of Science and Engineering, with a primary focus on Physics. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring laboratories are safe, well-equipped, and effectively managed to support high-quality, hands-on student learning experiences. As the Senior Technical Officer, your key responsibilities will include: Leading and coordinating a team to deliver high-quality laboratory teaching support. Overseeing the preparation and setup of materials, equipment, and consumables for practical classes. Managing laboratory operations, including procurement, maintenance, stock control, and forward resource planning. Partnering with academic staff to support the delivery, scheduling, and continuous improvement of practical teaching. About You You are a collaborative and proactive technical professional with strong organisational skills and experience supporting teaching laboratories in a science or engineering environment. With a strong background in physics laboratories and technical instrumentation, you bring the expertise required to support high-quality practical teaching while coordinating technical staff and resources. You will demonstrate: A degree in Physics (or related discipline) or equivalent experience, with strong knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and electronics. Experience in maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment. Proven ability to coordinate or supervise staff within a technical or laboratory setting. Strong organisational, communication, and WHS knowledge to effectively support safe and high-quality teaching and research. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Condensed Matter Physics. Experience in numerical techniques and analytical field-theoretical approaches is desirable. Applicants who are in the process of completing a Ph.D. degree will also be considered. The appointee will work with Prof. Zi Yang Meng to conduct research on computational and theoretical condensed matter physics.
