Your role The successful candidate will strengthen the Department of Law’s research area in Banking, Financial and Commercial Law, which is a cornerstone of the Department’s academic profile and a key contributor to the University’s reputation. They will pursue research and teaching in this field, focussing on Luxembourg, EU, and comparative transnational perspectives. The position is of particular strategic relevance given the Department’s ambition to maintain its leadership in financial law, a domain central to Luxembourg’s role as a global financial centre. The ideal candidate shows potential to: Develop an internationally recognized research profile in banking law in a broad sense, e.g., prudential regulation and bank supervision, depositary law, regulation of payments and payment systems, financial technologies, sustainable finance, secured transactions and consumer financial contracts, links to financial markets law Publish extensively in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, monographs, or authoritative treatises Contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives such as the FutureFinTechNCER and/or collaborate with the Department of Finance in the field of sustainable finance Teach in core areas of banking law. The ability to contribute to teaching in related areas of commercial law—such as financial and securities law, company law, insolvency law, the law of commercial contracts and torts - is an asset Cover legal frameworks at both EU and Luxembourg levels, adopting a comparative approach that includes neighbouring jurisdictions and other global financial centres Engage with Luxembourg and EU regulators (e.g. CSSF, CBL, ECB, ESMA), international organizations, e.g. IOSCO, BIS, FSB, etc., and other stakeholders, e.g. (inter‑)national law firms, industry and academic associations Acquire competitive research funding and establish and lead their own research team Show and develop leadership potential The candidate will join one of Europe’s most prominent academic groups in banking and financial law, distinguished by both its intellectual strength and research output. Your profile A Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degree in Law Experience and interest in engaging in academic research at the highest level Publications in internationally recognized journals, monographs with international publishers or other publications in banking law (or other fields of financial law) indicating potential for excellent research Potential and aptitude for teaching and supervising research at the university level An excellent academic track record demonstrating both scholarly excellence and leadership potential Experience with externally funded research projects and interdisciplinarity is considered to be an asset Experience in interdisciplinary research—particularly at the intersection of law, finance, and technology—is a strong asset The successful candidate must commit to lecturing banking law, as well as related topics in financial and commercial law, at bachelor and master levels. Description The Research Center SHORES seeks to recruit a Postdoctoral Associate to work in the field of geotechnical engineering. Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field, and should demonstrate strong expertise in at least two of the following areas: Large-deformation numerical modeling (e.g., Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL), Material Point Method (MPM), or advanced Finite Element Methods). Physical modeling of tunnel excavation and ground response (e.g., geotechnical centrifuge testing, lab-scale TBM experiments). Probabilistic and reliability-based analysis applied to underground structures. Advanced subsurface characterization techniques integrating geotechnical and geophysical data. Geohazard mapping and modeling, including tunnel-induced ground movements, sinkholes, landslides, or subsidence. Research Project: The Postdoctoral Associate will work on a research initiative to improve the predictive modeling of tunnel performance and ground risks in variable and uncertain geologies. The researcher will be embedded in a team that spans infrastructure resilience, computational geomechanics, and data-driven risk evaluation.
