The Faculty of Medicine Genomic Informatics Group invites applications for a 3-year full time fixed-term postdoctoral position of Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow in Genomic Informatics to join our dynamic research environment at the forefront of translational genomics. The appointee will be situated within the Genomic Informatics group which forms part of the Human Development and Health (HDH) School, located at Southampton University Hospital site. Working alongside genomic informaticians, clinicians, and data scientists, you will help drive translational research that has direct impact on patient care through improved diagnostic pipelines, integrative analytics, and data‑driven insight. As fitting with a Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow, you will: Drive innovative research projects that uplift personalised diagnostics through the integration of high‑throughput genomic sequencing data with structured clinical data from electronic health records. Develop, implement and maintain robust, reproducible genomic bioinformatics pipelines, using modern workflow systems and high‑performance computing platforms. Produce rigorous, high‑quality research outputs that advance applied genomic diagnostics and build your growing research profile. Collaborate closely across disciplines, including genomics, clinical medicine, statistics, software engineering, and compute infrastructure to co‑create impactful research solutions. Contribute to the design and delivery of education and training in genomic data science for academic and clinical audiences. Supervise postgraduate research and taught students, and provide leadership within a highly collaborative research group. The appointed individual will work at the interface of University Genomic Informatic Research, high-performance compute infrastructure and clinical stakeholder applications. Dependent on experience, the successful applicant will be appointed as a Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow. You will bring: A PhD in bioinformatics, genomics, computational biology, data science, or a closely related field, with significant postdoctoral or professional experience in genomic medicine. Extensive hands‑on experience with high‑throughput sequencing data analysis, variant interpretation, and bioinformatics workflows used in research and diagnostic settings. Strong programming skills (e.g., R, Python, Perl, C/C++, Bash) and confidence working across Linux and other operating systems. Experience integrating genomic data with structured clinical data and familiarity with clinical ontologies (e.g., HPO, SNOMED CT, ICD‑10). A solid understanding of data governance for handling sensitive genomic and clinical data. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. Description Laboratory for Advanced Neuroengineering and Translational Medicine at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to recruit a postdoctoral research associate to join this new initiative focusing on designing and developing novel medical devices for ultimate human use. Laboratory for Advanced Neuroengineering and Translational Medicine oversees a variety of exciting projects developing new treatments and diagnostics for cardiovascular, neurologic, and metabolic diseases. The successful applicant will join a number of fascinating projects on engineering novel approaches to modulate physiology and neural activity in the brain, gastrointestinal (GI) tract, and other peripheral organs. The post holder will work as a key member of the Northern Ireland Clinical Research Facility (NICRF) team to support, coordinate and deliver high-quality clinical research, with a focus on Ophthalmology and Vision Science studies.
