We are recruiting faculty candidates at all levels of seniority. Responsibilities: Lead and contribute to applied research projects with industry partners and government agencies in one or more of the following AI application areas: Advanced Manufacturing & Semiconductors Urban Systems AI-Augmented Engineering AI Safety & Security Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology Healthcare Hospitality & Tourism Develop and teach applied AI courses within the cluster’s programmes and across relevant interdisciplinary modules. Supervise Industry Doctorate/Masters and capstone projects in collaboration with domain faculty and industry partners. Contribute to SIT’s continuing education offerings. Serve as AI mentor for existing SIT domain faculty through joint projects and co-supervision mechanisms. Qualifications: PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a relevant domain with demonstrated AI/ML research experience. Equivalent industry experience may also be considered. Technical expertise and deep knowledge of one or more of the following areas: Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) & surrogate modelling Time-series modelling & anomaly detection Bayesian methods & uncertainty quantification LLMs & multi-modal models Graph neural networks (GNNs) Reinforcement learning Edge AI & model optimisation Trustworthy AI (explainability, auditability, privacy) Spatiotemporal data engineering Digital twins & simulation Experience applying AI to the SIT’s focus areas Demonstrated leadership and evidence of working on industry/society-defined problems Experience with industry research collaborations, applied research grants, and/or system deployment Established thought leadership and/or professional standing e.g. publications in top journals and keynotes Non-publication outputs and impact such as open-source tools, technical reports, patents, deployed systems Track record of cross-disciplinary collaborations Strong supervisory and mentoring skills, with an interest in working closely with students in an educational environment. Description The Laboratory for Computer-Human Intelligence (CHI-lab, https://www.x-labs.xyz) in the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Associate to advance cutting-edge research in machine learning (ML). Our lab explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, and human-computer interaction, striving to create technologies that amplify human potential. The successful candidate will engage in innovative research projects in ML, focusing on developing novel ML algorithms, enhancing human-AI collaboration, and exploring systems tailored to dynamic, human-centered environments. They may also work with diverse signal modalities, including vision, speech, images, and physiological signals. Preferred Experience: The lab highly values candidates with one or more of the following experiences: Human-Centered Applications: Familiarity applying ML in areas like healthcare, education, neuro-robotics, and/or assistive technologies. Prior experience in physiological signal processing (e.g., EMG, EEG, ECG) is an advantage. Familiarity with HCI principles and frameworks, in particular, experience conducting usability studies and designing user- centric AI systems. Assistive / Collaborative Robotics: Interest in developing robotic systems for rehabilitation, assistive technology, or neuro-prosthetics, leveraging machine learning to improve precision and adaptability in user interactions. Knowledge of deploying robots in shared workspaces, focusing on safety, cooperation, and efficiency in human-robot teams. Multi-Modal ML: Expertise in working with diverse data types, such as vision, speech, images, and physiological signals. Experience integrating multiple modalities to build robust AI systems is an advantage. Interdisciplinary Applications: Leveraging LLM / VLMs for interdisciplinary problems, such as: AI-driven scientific discovery, automating hypothesis generation in finance / natural sciences / physical sciences, enhancing collaborative workflows in complex organizational settings. Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science or related field, with no more than five years post receipt of the PhD. Experience in one or more ML domains, such as deep learning, reinforcement learning, or human-centered ML. Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python) and ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), with evidence in the form of public (Github) repository. Excellent abilities in communication, teamwork, and mentorship. Strong publication record in top-tier conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, CHI, CVPR). Coordinate finance and reporting for a major research centre focused on bushfire and natural hazards. The Opportunity You will support the successful delivery of the NSW Bushfire and Natural Hazards Research Centre through a broad range of administrative and coordination activities. Working within the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment, you will lead financial management processes and ensure the Centre operates within its funding requirements. You will coordinate and compile quarterly, annual and final reports, bringing together contributions from multiple research projects and stakeholders. This includes ensuring reporting is accurate, timely and presented clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences. You will manage contractual arrangements with external research partners and act as a central point of contact for administration and operational matters. You will build strong working relationships across the University and with external stakeholders, providing guidance on finance, travel and administrative processes to support the Centre’s day-to-day operations.
