Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha was named after the Hindu elephant god Ganesha.

It starting as a teacher training college and has gone through numerous changes to become the institution it is today. 

It is based in the city of Singaraja with campuses on Udayana Street in the Banjar Tejal district, and in Denpasar.

Students can study across faculties of economics, education, engineering, vocational education, language and art, agriculture, law and social sciences, and maths and natural science and medical sciences.

Job Purpose:  The Research Engineer will support applied research and innovation in environmental sustainability, working with internal teams and industry partners to develop practical solutions. The role focuses on translating scientific concepts into scalable solutions that address challenges in meeting environmental sustainability target through resource efficiency, waste management, and other sustainable solutions for various industries. Research engineers will collaborate closely with faculty, professional officers and industry partners to execute commercially viable solutions that address real-world challenges. In the process, research engineers gain valuable applied research capabilities aligned with evolving industry needs. Key Responsibilities: Applied Research & Development Conduct reviews on sustainability literature, frameworks and assessment tools for both generic industry-wide and industry-specific applications, such as life cycle analysis (LCA), environmental impact assessments, energy analysis and resource optimization studies Develop sustainability solution road mapping and development framework to supports identification and follow-through of sustainability solutions for organizational green transition. Support development of sustainability solutions and applications to implement organizational green transition through project execution (experimentation, data collection, analysis and evaluation) including includes but not limited to carbon management, circular economy, renewable energy, and sustainable materials. Industry Collaboration Support collaborations with industry partners to understand problem statements and contribute to solution development Assist in project scoping by gathering technical inputs and identifying relevant capabilities within the ecosystem (IHLs, research centres, industry partners) Participate in industry meetings, discussions, and project engagements Project Execution & Support Assist in planning and executing projects to ensure timely delivery of outcomes Generate technical reports, presentations, and documentation on the development of sustainability solutions and applications Contribute to grant proposals and project submissions where required Track project progress and maintain proper documentation of activities Job Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree with 5+ year experience OR Master’s degree with 2+ year experience in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Engineering with sustainability training, or a related field or related disciplines with relevant experience in research, engineering, product development or sustainability related work. Possess understanding of sustainability concepts (e.g., LCA, carbon foot printing, resource efficiency) Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Resourceful, meticulous and problem-solving attitude. Key competencies:  Possess understanding of sustainability challenges faced by industries locally and globally Strong interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with industry partners and stakeholders Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional and multidisciplinary environment. The role is embedded within the ARC E2Crop Hub and the Centre for Atomaterials and Nanomanufacturing (RMIT University), which focus on renewable energy systems, intelligent sensing, advanced materials, and nanoscale device technologies. The successful candidate will develop machine learning approaches (including generative models and physics-informed neural networks) to design and optimise integrated photonic devices and metasurfaces. This includes building automated workflows that link electromagnetic simulation tools with AI models to accelerate device discovery and performance optimisation. The role involves applying computational methods such as topology optimisation, adjoint techniques, and data-driven modelling to identify high-performance, manufacturable photonic structures while accounting for fabrication limits and multi-physics effects. You will also contribute to internal software tools that support rapid prototyping and enable broader research teams to use AI-driven design methods. The position offers access to advanced computational infrastructure and fabrication facilities, supporting research at the intersection of photonics, AI, and nanotechnology. About You Deep understanding of waveguide optics, light-matter interaction, and plasmonics Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical FDTD/MODE, COMSOL Multiphysics, Ansys HFSS, or Meep) Familiarity with Photonic Integrated device design flow and foundry PDKs (Silicon Photonics, SiN, or III-V) Strong proficiency in Python and machine learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX) Experience with photonic design techniques and global optimisation algorithms (Genetic Algorithms, Particle Swarm, Gradient Descent) Experience implementing deep learning architectures relevant to physics, such as CNNs for image-based field prediction, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), or Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) Solid grasp of numerical methods, partial differential equations (PDEs), and linear algebra Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud-based simulation acceleration Experience with integrated photonic device fabrication and light-matter interactions Evidence of research output including high quality publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field. Ability to generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.
