Universitas Bung Hatta

Universitas Bung Hatta is a private higher education institution in Indonesia. It was established in April 1981 by a group of regional leaders under the Wawasan Nusantara Foundation, with the aim of expanding access to higher education and supporting regional development. 

The university is named in honour of Mohammad Hatta, Indonesia’s first Vice President and one of the country’s founding figures.

The university operates across three main campuses in Padang, each serving distinct academic and administrative functions. Campus I in Ulak Karang operates as the administrative centre and houses the rectorate, central library, and other key facilities. Campus II in Aia Pacah is home to several faculties and student activity spaces, while Campus III in Gunung Pangilun supports engineering and industrial programmes, with specialised labs and technical infrastructure.

There are seven faculties within the university: Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning, and Faculty of Industrial Technology. Each faculty offers a wide range of both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Academic and research activities at the university are closely aligned with regional priorities, particularly in fields such as coastal and marine development, engineering, and education. Through teaching, research, and community engagement, the university contributes to the socio-economic development of West Sumatra.
