Job Description FACULTY OF SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS Instructor I / Instructor II (25260593) The appointee is expected to take up academic and administrative responsibilities in the Department. The incumbent should collaborate effectively with stakeholders within the department and external collaborators. The appointee should demonstrate a high degree of self-efficacy and be able to serve as a role model for less experienced course assistants. Responsibilities : Delivering and preparing materials for tutorial classes; Assisting course instructors in conducting in-class exercises, marking assessments and class administration; Assisting faculty members and the General Office in organising academic and/or student activities; Mentoring less experienced course assistants; and Other academic and administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Department, or Programme Directors. Requirements: A master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or related disciplines; Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); Good analytical and problem-solving abilities; Strong communication and interpersonal skills; Self-motivation and willingness to learn; and Preferably proficiency in MATLAB/R/SAS. Candidates with less experience will be considered for the position of Instructor II. The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Job Description SCHOOL OF CHINESE MEDICINE TEACHING AND RESEARCH DIVISION The School of Chinese Medicine was established in 1999 and offers comprehensive education programmes in Chinese medicine, including both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine. The School is engaged in a wide range of research projects, provides Chinese medicine healthcare services to the community, and seeks to foster modernisation of the Chinese medicine profession. To consolidate the strengths of innovative research, the School has established eight high quality theme-based Research Centres equipped with advanced equipment and facilities. The highlighted strategic research areas in the School include (1) Precision medicine and phenomics study; (2) Translational medicine and innovative drug discovery; and (3) Authentication and testing of Chinese medicines. Assistant Professor / Associate Professor (23240880) The School of Chinese Medicine now invites applications for faculty position at the Assistant Professor / Associate Professor level. Applicants should possess a PhD in Chinese Medicine or related disciplines. Excellent interpersonal communication and scientific writing skills are required. Preference will be given to candidates with appealing external grant record, outstanding publication and leading potential of innovative therapeutic intervention in both Chinese and Western Medicine and Biomedical Science. The appointee is also expected to teach basic theory and diagnostics of Chinese and Western Medicine at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; establish a vigorous research programme in the areas of interest; and develop research cluster by collaborations within and outside the School.  This is a tenure-track position with an initial appointment on a fixed-term contract of up to three years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement. Tenured appointment is expected to be attained within six years.  Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The center focuses on a tripartite technical system of "Equipment Automation – Operation & Maintenance Intelligence – System Autonomy," aiming to drive profound transformation in industrial manufacturing by breaking through key technologies in smart equipment, industrial software, and system solutions. The center collaborates closely with industrial giants like Hengtong, Haier, and Bond Tech to create a complete value chain from theoretical innovation to industrial application. RESEARCH AREAS Currently, we are seeking candidates from different research areas. The more details can be kindly found as below: 1. Industrial AI Algorithm and Autonomous Decision-Making Systems RESPONSIBILITIES Research and develop autonomous decision-making algorithms for process industries (e.g., chemical, pharmaceutical, materials, energy) or discrete manufacturing (e.g., electronics assembly, automotive, home appliances). Explore the integration of large language models and reinforcement learning for real-time optimization, fault self-recovery, and production scheduling in industrial processes. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES A Ph.D. (obtained or soon to be obtained) in Computer Science, Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Operations Research, or a related field. Solid research background and practical experience in one or more of the following areas: Reinforcement Learning / Deep Reinforcement Learning Fine-tuning and Application of Large Language Models Time-Series Data Prediction and Modeling Intelligent Decision-Making and Optimization Algorithms Strong programming skills (proficient in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, etc.). Strong intellectual curiosity, ability to solve problems independently, and excellent teamwork spirit. Outstanding written and oral communication skills in both Chinese and English.  2. Industrial Digital Twin and Intelligent Control Systems RESPONSIBILITIES Develop industrial process digital twin models based on the fusion of mechanistic and data-driven approaches. Develop predictive maintenance and fault diagnosis algorithms for critical equipment (e.g., compressors, reaction kettles). Research advanced process control strategies and deploy them on the center's distributed control systems and edge computing devices. Work closely with industry partners to validate and optimize the developed technologies in real industrial environments. Publish high-quality academic papers and participate in writing research grant proposals. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES A Ph.D. (obtained or soon to be obtained) in Control Science and Engineering, Process Control, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. In-depth research experience and solid expertise in one or more of the following areas: Advanced Process Control and Optimization Digital Twin and Modeling & Simulation Predictive Maintenance and Fault Diagnosis Industrial IoT and Edge Computing Good programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++) and experience with system simulation. Experience with industrial field projects or familiarity with DCS/MES systems is preferred. Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
