The University of Urbino Carlo Bo, otherwise known as the University of Urbino, is an old university situated in the ancient walled city of Urbino, Italy.

Named for a former rector, the university grew out of the Collegio dei Dottori, which was already active in the middle of the 15th century. It existed for some time as a private institution, but exists today as a public university in the Marche region of Italy, on the country’s Adriatic coast and close to the Republic of San Marino.

The University of Urbino Carlo Bo doesn’t have a single campus, but is instead situated in a number of buildings across the city, many of which are of outstanding architectural interest. It has eight separate departments with a wide variety of undergraduate courses including humanities, economics, linguistics and law. The university also offers a course in Italian as a foreign language for any prospective international students.

The city of Urbino itself is renowned for its classic Italian architecture and its ancient city walls, as well as for being the birthplace of Italian artist Raphael.Urbino is often considered a prime example of an Italian renaissance city, and is the location of a UNESCO world heritage site as well as being a prime destination for tourists, who are drawn to Urbino’s rare collection of renaissance art and ancient medieval churches.

The University of Urbino has had a number of famous alumni over the years, including the politician Alessandro Moretti, the Olympic medallist Giovanna Trillini as well as the biologist Guiseppe Novelli.
