Università degli Studi del Molise

Originally founded in 1982, the Università degli Studi del Molise (UniMol), is a public university, with campus locations across Italy’s Molise region. Initially comprising a single Faculty of Agriculture, the university has subsequently expanded beyond its original agricultural focus, developing into a multidisciplinary institution with six departments covering agricultural and environmental sciences, economics, law, biosciences and territory, humanities and social sciences, and medicine and health sciences.

UniMol operates across three locations in Campobasso, Pesche, and Termolim with Campobasso being the university's main campus and student hub. Molise is a mountainous region of central Italy situated in the Apennine Mountains, with its natural landscape providing opportunities for outdoor activities alongside the university's academic environment.

The university currently has around 9,000 students, more than 100 PhD students, and approximately 600 teaching and non-teaching staff. Its academic courses include programmes such as medical engineering, software system security, tourism and cultural heritage, food science and technology, agricultural and forestry sciences, medicine and surgery, law, and primary education. For the 2026/27 academic year, UniMol is also introducing three new programmes, including computer engineering for artificial intelligence and automation.

Research is organised across the university's six departments and includes specialist work in areas linked to the region's history, environment, and economy. In the humanities, the ARCaS research group examines archaeological settlements and material culture in Molise from prehistory through the medieval and modern periods, while CULTHLAND focuses on cultural heritage and historical landscapes. 

The university also operates a Science Park and a network of research laboratories supporting work across agriculture, food science, biosciences, technology, medicine, and cultural heritage.
