Job description: The Center for soil and Fertilizer research in Africa at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research position in the field of Soil Spectroscopy. The successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary team to work on projects focused on the development of new easy, accurate, and low-cost tools for soil agricultural soils diagnosis based on the coupling of spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, NIR, Raman, …) with machine learning/ chemometrics. Responsibilities of the Position The Postdoctoral researcher is intended to support the soil spectroscopy research activities and digital soil mapping with specific responsibilities as presented below:  Conduct research on the development and application of spectroscopy methods such as near infrared and FTIR as alternatives to traditional methods of soil characterization, monitoring and management, Organization of field campaigns, data collection and lab work, Spectral data analysis, data processing, and model development, ‘R’, Python programming / package development, Co-supervise PhD and undergraduate students. Be engaged in technology transfer. Criteria of the candidate: Qualified applicants should have the following skills: Ph.D. in soil spectroscopy / Chemometrics/ analytical chemistry or related field. Experience in soil spectroscopy by using Fourier Transformed Infrared (FTIR), near infrared Spectroscopy and advanced programming skills in ‘R’, Python … Experience in Data analysis and chemometrics (PLS, SVMR, NN…) Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment, The ability to work to high standards within deadlines, Excellent command of English and French, Proven ability to publish in high impacted scientific peer-review journals. Job Summary MAScIR-UM6P is seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our research team. The successful candidate will be involved in cutting-edge research focusing on soil biology, microbial ecology, and molecular biology techniques. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to advancing our understanding of microbial communities in soil ecosystems and their roles in nutrient cycling, soil health, and environmental sustainability. Job Responsibilities Conduct independent and collaborative research projects focused on the effect seaweeds bioproducts on soil biology, soil carbon, microbial diversity, and functional genomics. Apply molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, metagenomics, transcriptomics) to study microbial communities in soil environments. Develop and optimize laboratory protocols for characterization, and functional analysis of soil biology. Utilize high-throughput sequencing technologies to analyze soil microbiomes and interpret the data using bioinformatics tools. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of researchers, including soil scientists, biochemists, and ecologists. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at national and international conferences. Mentor graduate students and contribute to the lab's overall research strategy. Manage and analyze large datasets, ensuring proper documentation and reproducibility. Qualifications and Experience Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field. Strong background in soil microbiology and molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, sequencing). Experience with high-throughput sequencing technologies (e.g., Illumina, PacBio) and bioinformatics analysis. Solid understanding of microbial ecology, soil systems, and their interactions with plants and the environment. Experience in microbial functional analysis (e.g., functional gene sequencing, metabolic pathway analysis). Knowledge of environmental sustainability, soil health, or plant-microbe interactions. Proficiency in the use of bioinformatics tools for metagenomic and transcriptomic data analysis (e.g., QIIME, DADA2, R, Python). Demonstrated ability to independently design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and publish results. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively. The University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) is pleased to announce the opening for up to two full-time academic positions (Teaching and Research stream) in Veterinary Anesthesiology. For candidates with an interest in research, UCVM has enviable access and existing collaborations with the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. Depending on qualifications and career track expectations, the appointments will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (with tenure) in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The anticipated start date is June 1, 2026, or a mutually agreed upon date. The positions require a DVM (or equivalent). Board certification (DACVAA and/or Dipl. ECVAA) is preferred, but board-eligible ACVAA or ECVAA residency-trained candidates, or a candidate holding a PhD in veterinary anesthesiology, will be considered. An additional graduate degree is considered an asset. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor normally requires evidence or promise of original high-quality research and scholarship and future development as a scholar. Evidence or promise of the ability to obtain funding may also be required where appropriate. Evidence or promise of teaching proficiency or professional activity may also be required. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor requires evidence of an established academic program of a caliber equivalent to national recognition by peers. A satisfactory record of and active involvement in university, professional or community service is expected. UCVM employs a Distributed Veterinary Teaching Hospital model. Clinical time may be assigned in clinics in the community. If clinical time is assigned, opportunities are wide and varied and the successful candidate will be given guidance and support in establishing relationships with local clinics, based on desires and opportunities available. UCVM's AVMA accredited DVM program provides a comprehensive general veterinary education to approximately 100 students per year.
