The Federal University of Ceará, or UFC, was founded in 1955 in the state of Ceará, north-eastern Brazil.

The purpose of its founding was to broaden access to effective higher-education for as many people in the Ceará region as possible. As such, it is a state institution that operates multiple campuses across Ceará, in five different cities. Three of the largest campuses can be found in the city of Fortaleza, the state capital of Ceará.

Located right on the Brazilian coast, Fortaleza is one of the largest cities in the country, and a major economic hub in the region. The Fortaleza campuses are home to schools of medicine, law, and various scientific disciplines, among others. Similar facilities also exist on smaller campuses in the cities of Sobral, Barbalha, Russas, and Quizada.

Academically, the university offers over 100 undergraduate courses and a similar number of graduate equivalents, in addition over 30 doctoral courses are available as well as research opportunities. These cover a wide range of subjects from biology to law. In addition, the Federal University of Ceará also has places available for postgraduate students looking to study abroad and take in the culture and climate of South America.

Description The Micro- and Nanoscale Bioengineering Lab (MNBL) at New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking to recruit a research assistant to study various human diseases using an organ/organoid-on-a-chip approach. Applicants with a strong background in designing and fabricating microfluidic devices and cell culture are encouraged to apply. Research in the MNBL focuses on designing and fabricating microphysiological systems to study various diseases affecting multiple human organs in vitro. Our project involves collaborations with the faculty of Bioengineering and Biology at NYUAD. Responsibilities of the position include growing cells in organ-on-a-chip microfluidic devices, characterizing them using downstream analysis such as bioimaging and omics analysis, and testing new potential drugs on these cells. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment comprising PhD-level scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate students, thereby acquiring valuable skills in writing manuscripts and establishing collaborations across disciplines. Applicants must hold a B.S. degree in the engineering field. They must also have excellent cell biology expertise; multi-year experience of handling cells with microfluidic devices is essential. The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop/produce/investigate a web-based Ship Simulation and Optimisation Software Platform. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: i. Develop naval architecure calculation and ship design tools based on analytical or empirical methods, i.e., stability calculation, resistance and propulsion estimation, weight estimation, etc. ii. Develop a practical parametric model framework for ship and system design. iii. Carry out naval architecture calculations, i.e., stability, resistance, hydrodynamic analysis, etc. iv. Carry out ship hydrodynamic and CFD simulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Have relevant competence in the areas of naval architecture and ship hydrodynamics. Have a degree in Naval Architecture / Marine Engineering / Ocean Engineering / Other Relevant Engineering Degree. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will be advantageous. Experience in any programming language will be advantageous. Experience in marine hydrodynamics will be advantageous.
