The Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) was founded in 1968, and until 2006, it was the first and only Federal University in São Paulo.

São Carlos – located in the southeast region of Brazil – is one of its most developed areas and is considered the “Capital of Technology” within the state. 

The university has four campuses, which are named according to the local cities they call home: São Carlos, Araras, Sorocaba and Lagoa do Sino, which is located in the city of Buri.

The Araras campus is one of the most important research centres and offers courses in Agronomical Engineering and Biotechnology. The campus of Sorocaba, however, has sustainability as a core focus which drives most of its activities, and has a physical area of about 700 thousand square metres.

Interestingly, the more recent Lagoa do Sino campus is established on a 6,430,000 square-metre farm, and houses the centre of nature sciences.

The university community also includes important projects, such as a dedicated Health-School Unit, comprised of activities developed by other departments at the university – and involves the teaching departments of Physical Education, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Psychology and Occupational Therapy.

There are more than 250 laboratories, a variety of libraries, theatres, amphitheatres, auditoriums, sport gymnasiums, sport grounds with eight courts and two swimming pools, 85 classrooms and over 370 student living quarters.

UFSCar has been rewarded with many prizes, including: Best Public University in Brazil countryside, Institutional Merit on Young Scientist Award in 2008, and has been consistently highly ranked when compared to similar universities in Brazil.

Collaborating closely with faculty, industry partners, researchers, and students, we will co-create impactful, practical, and commercially viable products that bridge the gap between technologies and customers, encompassing environmental, social, and economic dimensions. Key Responsibilities Applied Research and Innovation Leads Research Fellows (RFs) and Research Engineers/Assistants (RE/RAs) in the end-to-end development and productisation of solutions, including experimental design and prototype validation. Lead and manage projects focused on product innovation, including, Artificial Intelligence, renewable energy, circular economy, sustainable materials, and carbon reduction technologies. Explore emerging technologies, frameworks, and practices to advance product solutions in industries. Establishes challenging yet achievable project goals; conducts structured reviews to ensure timely delivery of milestones and project deliverables. Champions thought leadership in research and development, driving innovation across the organization. Oversees facility planning and design, encompassing layout, equipment, utilities, and resource allocation, while developing business plans and ensuring adherence to budget and timelines. Identifies, defines, and resolves complex, non-obvious problems within existing systems and processes through rigorous analytical thinking. Cultivates strategic relationships with industry partners and vendors in support of research initiatives. Mentors and develops team members; provides leadership in scheduling, task allocation, and performance monitoring. Co-supervises student projects in collaboration with academic staff, fostering a strong research pipeline. Secure funding for research and innovation projects through grant applications and proposals. Monitor project progress, budgets, and milestones, providing regular updates to stakeholders. Professional Development and Expertise Stay updated with developments in sustainability innovation, including new technologies, regulations, and industry practices. Teaching and Mentorship Supervise and mentor students in industry projects, providing technical guidance and fostering an applied learning environment. Contribute to the development of product development curricula by integrating industry insights and best practices. Job Requirements PhD with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry or research experience; or Bachelor's or Master's degree with a minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience. Deliver high-quality and professional ethics with passion for business development and managing customer relationships. Strong business acumen, project management experience and results-oriented with a strategic mindset. Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills and able to adapt in a fast-paced business environment. Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position with Responsible AI UK (RAi UK), based at the University of Southampton. The post is full-time for 20 months, with potential for extension. The post holder will not be required to be based at Southampton but must be able to meet in person with the team once a week. You will join Responsible AI UK, a £31 million UKRI-funded national programme spanning 28 UK universities and over 150 partner organisations across academia, industry, government and civil society. RAi UK is one of the largest responsible AI research programmes in the UK, working at the interface of interdisciplinary research, policy and practice. You will work alongside the CEO, Professor Sarvapali (Gopal) Ramchurn, and the RAi UK leadership team. About the role This is an opportunity for an experienced postdoctoral researcher to work at the heart of one of the UK’s largest responsible AI programmes. The post holder will translate technical outputs from across the RAi UK portfolio and the wider Responsible AI landscape into clear, evidence-based policy advice for government, industry and the public. The research will focus on: Agentic AI systems and their governance Physical AI and its integration with real-world systems Measurement and evaluation of agentic AI performance The implications of these technologies for government, industry and the wider public The post holder will design and convene roundtables, workshops and events with senior stakeholders across UK government, regulators, industry, civil society and international partners. They will synthesise findings into white papers, policy briefings and consultation responses, and will represent RAi UK at national and international policy fora. The role may require travel across the UK and internationally. The system targets three key challenges in healthcare facility operations: ergonomic safety for an ageing workforce, infection control, and retrofit compatibility with existing ceiling tracks and reusable curtains.
