Universidad Cidade de Sao Paulo was originally established in 1972 as the first higher education institution in the eastern zone of Sao Paulo in Tatuape. It was granted full university status in 1992 and has since become one of the leading higher education institutions in the region.
UNICID is a member of Conshelo de Reitores das Universidades Brasileiras (CRUB), an organisation aimed at promoting the improvement of higher education in Brazil.
The university offers more than 60 undergraduate and several postgraduate courses in various disciplines such as law, technology, sports and physiotherapy, sciences, medicine, humanities and business.
The university is well regarded for its community engagement, which includes a variety of outreach programmes, volunteer initiatives and social responsibility projects, which students can get involved in. One example is its health campaigns, where students organise workshops, health screenings and care initiatives to underserved communities and schools in the local area.
