Job Description SCHOOL OF CHINESE MEDICINE TEACHING AND RESEARCH DIVISION The School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) was established in 1999 and offers comprehensive education programmes in Chinese medicine, including both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine. The School is engaged in a wide range of research projects, provides Chinese medicine healthcare services to the community, and seeks to foster modernisation of the Chinese medicine profession. To consolidate the strengths of innovative research, the School has established eight high quality theme-based Research Centres equipped with advanced equipment and facilities. The highlighted strategic research areas in the School include (1) Precision medicine and phenomics study; (2) Translational medicine and innovative drug discovery; and (3) Authentication and testing of Chinese medicines. Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (23240130) To strengthen the research capacity, power the current research disciplinaries of SCM and keep up with the evolving global research environment of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the School is hiring a full-time faculty member at Assistant Professor level or above related to data science and/or computational chemistry. The data science expert, preferably with research experience in Chinese Medicine-related projects, will interact closely with the current faculty members on collaborative research projects to bring breakthrough efforts in the modern Chinese medicine research field. Candidates should possess a PhD degree in or related areas and relevant postdoctoral training with experience in and a strong understanding of bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational drug discovery and translational research. Preference will be given to candidates with appealing external grant records, outstanding publication and leading potential in research areas of clinical or populational studies with innovative therapeutic interventions. Overseas experience in world-class universities and good English communication skills are highly desirable. The appointee is also expected to teach subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, establish a vigorous research program in the areas of interest, and develop research cluster by collaborations within and outside the School. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement. Tenured appointment is expected to be attained within six years. Job Description SCHOOL OF CHINESE MEDICINE Multiple Senior Research Assistant positions are available in the Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development, which is located in the Hong Kong Science Park. CENTRE FOR CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE DRUG DEVELOPMENT Funded by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the Hong Kong Government, the Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development Limited (the Centre) was established in September 2020 to accelerate the development of Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM)-based drugs and serve as a strategic platform to promote collaborations among local and international researchers, institutions and industry. The Centre aims to achieve the goal by enhancing the quality of pre-clinical and clinical CHM research and transforming the results into pharmaceutical products for international markets. In particular, the Centre develops treatments and cures for diseases such as ulcerative colitis and chronic constipation. It also supports the incubation of new CHM-based pharmaceutical start-ups that will target the global market, and nurtures talent for CHM research in Hong Kong. Senior Research Assistants in Chinese medicine research (24250237) The appointees will participate in preclinical research projects relating to cutting-edge new drug development based on Chinese herbal medicine. Responsibilities: Research and compilation of literature on classic traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions; Research on modern preparation processes and quality control criteria for classic chinese herbal formulas; Contribute to general laboratory operations, including the maintenance of cell culture and animals; Preparation and publication of research articles; and Undertake any other duties as assigned. Requirements: Hold a master's degree in chinese pharmacy, pharmacy, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutical preparation, or other related disciplines; Proficient in extraction, purification, and qualitative/quantitative analysis techniques of active ingredients in traditional Chinese medicine; Familiar with cellular/molecular biology techniques; An excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese; and Passionate about scientific research, self-motivated, with independent research capabilities and strong teamwork spirit. Working in alignment with the University's research strategy, the appointee will undertake innovative, high-impact research in bionanotechnology and regenerative medicine. This nationally recognised program aims to advance fundamental understanding and translational applications within the discipline. Funded by the Australian Research Council Discovery Project, "Understanding Transient Cellular Response to Electrical Stimulation (DP250101190)," the role will focus on developing cutting-edge methodologies to investigate live cell responses to electrical stimulation with high spatial and temporal resolution. The Research Fellow will design and implement advanced bioinformatics pipelines to interrogate stem cell biology using multi-omics approaches, including RNA sequencing, proteomics, and secretomics datasets. Responsibilities include integrative analysis of complex molecular data, interpretation of cellular response mechanisms, and close collaboration with experimental researchers to uncover pathways regulating stem cell function and fate. The successful candidate will be supported to build an independent research profile through structured mentorship in competitive grant writing and opportunities to contribute to, and lead, fellowship and project applications. They will play a key role in planning and delivering high-quality research projects, establishing productive research networks within RMIT and with local and national partners, and producing impactful research outputs that strengthen the School's research excellence and reputation. We are looking for candidates with their knowledge and experience in the key focus areas: Essential Expertise in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, ideally working with human mesenchymal stromal/stem cells, and/or induced pluripotent stem cells. Expertise in bioinformatics, including RNA-sequencing, proteomics, secretomics, and pipeline development. Evidence of research outputs including publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field. Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required. Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills. Preferable Experience in eukaryotic cell culture/tissue culture. Nanoscale characterisation expertise including Electron Microscopy and/or Atomic Force Microscopy. Electroactive biomaterial experience, including electrochemical characterisation and synthesis. Expertise with advanced graphing and/or data analysis software (Prism, Origin Pro, Matlab etc) Success in research funding and/or experience in grant development and writing.
