Universidad del Atlántico is situated in the northern Colombian city of Barranquilla, near the Caribbean Sea. 
The university was conceived by the Colombian philosopher Julio Enrique Bianco for the advancement of the coastal population of Colombia. It admitted its first students in 1946.
Today, undergraduates study at one of 10 faculties: architecture; fine arts; basic sciences; educational sciences; economic sciences; humanities; engineering; health sciences; legal sciences; and chemistry and pharmacy.
Students tend to live in halls of residence off-campus or in private rental apartments. Halls of residence often include large communal spaces, as well as TV, meals and cooking and laundry facilities. 
As part of a university internationalisation strategy, students are invited to join ORI club, run by the Office of International Relations. This offers access to information about training, scholarships and exchanges overseas, as well as the opportunity to volunteer as the partner for a visiting foreign exchange student. And ORI club members are offered access to free language courses in English, German, French, Portuguese and Korean.

The Faculty of Education

HKU has been involved in teacher education since 1917, and the Faculty of Education was established in 1984. The Faculty of Education is forward-looking and world leading, ranking 5th globally in Education (QS 2026). It has assumed an important role in educational research and professional training as a major provider of teacher education programmes and has contributed significantly to education policy and development in Hong Kong with its strong expertise in policy analysis and curriculum development. The Faculty is also the first in Hong Kong to offer degree programmes that train speech therapists and audiologists for the local community. The Position

We now invite applications for appointment as Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Chinese Language Education in the Faculty of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will teach Chinese Language pedagogy and assessment courses offered in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. He/She will also supervise research postgraduate students, contribute actively to research and knowledge exchange, and assume service/administrative responsibilities as appropriate. Candidate appointed at the senior level will also lead collaborative and interdisciplinary initiatives in research and knowledge exchange, mentor and nurture the next generation of scholars and researchers, and assume high-level service/administrative responsibilities.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should possess (i) a Ph.D. degree in the broad area of Chinese Studies, with specialization in Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese Language Studies, Chinese Linguistics, Chinese Language Education including assessment and pedagogy, or associated areas such as Psycholinguistics or Bilingual Education; (ii) solid teaching and research experience in Chinese Language Education; (iii) a proven track record in, or strong potential for, sustained high-quality research, scholarly publications and competitive external funding; and (iv) ability or potential to demonstrate academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Experience related to primary school education would be an advantage.

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 3 years initially, to commence on August 1, 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second three-year fixed-term contract. Exceptionally outstanding candidates at Professor/Associate Professor level may be considered for appointment on tenure terms subject to approval.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and professional leave, medical benefits, and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.

Tenured Professorship in „Piano/Piano Methodology“ (W2 salary)

within the Faculty of Philosophy II, Institute for Music, Media and Speech Sciences (IMMS), Department of Music Pedagogy. The position will commence preferably by the earliest possible date.

We are seeking a candidate with proven expertise in piano, piano performance and piano methodology, who is interested in collaborating on teaching and research projects at MLU and beyond.

In accordance with section 34 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities, the responsibilities of this artistic professorship include, in particular, the university-level training of teacher-training students specialising in piano, their preparation for the pedagogical and artistic application of piano playing in a school context, and the coordination of instrumental training and accompaniment within the department. The successful candidate is expected to be able to align with MLU’s profile areas ‘Cultures of Knowledge and Education’ and ‘Transformation’, thereby strengthening professional music education across society and the ‘Musikland Sachsen-Anhalt’ network. A prerequisite is a willingness to shape and further develop the curricula for teacher training in music at the university, as well as the joint degree programmes with the Evangelical University of Church Music (EHK), in consultation with the state. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with the departments of the Institute for Music, Media and Speech Sciences (IMMS) in research and teaching. Commitment to a specific area of research is also desirable. A willingness to participate in academic self-governance is required.

Applicants must meet the appointment requirements set out in section 35 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities, in particular a completed university degree in piano (Diploma, Master’s degree), proof of pedagogical aptitude (usually through positive teaching evaluations, preferably through in-depth artistic and methodological teaching at university level), and particular aptitude for artistic work (e.g. concert examination, masterclass examination). Furthermore, evidence of additional artistic achievements (e.g. extensive experience in chamber music or song accompaniment, experience in a field of early music, distinguished competition prizes, a proven track record of concert performances) must be provided. Excellent knowledge of German, at least at C1 level, is required.
