Postdoctoral Fellowship in Nutritional Epidemiology

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our research team in nutritional epidemiology, with a focus on dietary patterns, lifestyle monitoring, and health outcomes in large populations.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Nutritional Epidemiology or a related field, with substantial experience in dietary analysis, epidemiologic study design, big data handling, and dietary pattern deduction. They must demonstrate proven expertise in nutritional epidemiology, particularly in linking dietary pattern identification to health outcomes, and preference will be given to those with specialized experience in diet and health research in large population cohorts. The appointee is expected to demonstrate both independent research capabilities and effective team collaboration, manage ongoing research projects on lifestyle monitoring and intervention, publish original research articles in high-impact journals, assist PIs in writing external competitive grants, and develop their own SEED funding applications. This position offers excellent mentorship and access to large-scale cohort data in a collaborative research environment. 

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.

The Faculty of Psychology at the University of Vienna comprises four Departments as well as the Psychological Outpatient Unit. The Differential Psychology and Psychological Assessment Unit is a part of the Department for Developmental and Educational Psychology.

Research topics of the Unit focus particularly on (i) cognitive abilities, their bases, correlates, and (intra- and interindividual) changes over time, (ii) the development, application, and evaluation of psychological test (esp. objective personality tests), as well as (iii) the validity of empirical study effects. Our methodological approaches include quantitative analyses of cross-sectional and longitudinal data, research syntheses-based approaches (especially meta-analyses), as well as IRT-based (experimental) methods. We offer excellent work opportunities that are expected to lead to the completion of a doctorate, a motivated and experienced team, as well as international collaborations and intensive promotion of young scientists.

Your place of work:

The Faculty of Psychology at the University of Vienna comprises the Dean's Office, a Student Service Center, four institutes, and the Outpatient Unit for Research, Teaching and Practice.

Your future position is based with the new Professorship of clinical-psychological intervention research (Prof. Dr. Johanna Böttcher), which will be established in October 2026 at the Institute for Clinical and Health Psychology.

The research group investigates innovative digital interventions for mental disorders and psychological distress. The research focuses on acceptance, effectiveness, and mechanisms of action in various digital settings.

The working group actively promotes open and reproducible science (e.g., through pre-registration and the sharing of materials and data) and values diverse perspectives.

The Opportunity

You will contribute to teaching, research and academic leadership within the Medical Sciences discipline group. You will design and deliver engaging teaching into the Bachelor of Medical Sciences, using a range of pedagogical approaches and learning environments to support undergraduate and postgraduate students.
