Universidad Catolica del Maule has a history that dates back to 1970 when the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile was established. In 1991 the former Talca campus of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chila became the Universidad Catolica del Maule.
The university is located in the Maule Region, one of the 16 administrative divisions in Chile. Talca is the capital of both the Maule Region and the Talca Province.
There are seven faculties within the university: faculty of education sciences, faculty of health sciences, faculty of engineering sciences, faculty of agricultural and forestry sciences, faculty of social and economic sciences, faculty of religious and philosophical sciences, and the faculty of basic sciences.
There is also the school of medicine which offers degree programmes in the fields of medical bioengineering, medicine, and chemistry and pharmacy. The school has also recently started offering students the opportunity to study a bachelor of biomedical sciences.
Outside the classroom students are able to join one of the university’s various sports clubs. These include volleyball, futsal, soccer, basketball and rugby. Every year students from these clubs represent the university by competing at regional, national and international level.
The Department of Innovation, Development and Technology Transfer was set up to manage the results of applied research carried out by the university.
