Research within the Department of Physics seeks to explore and explain fundamental aspects of the world we live in, from the smallest subatomic particles to the Universe as a whole. The department aims to expand its research in practical applications that drive technological progress and tackle global challenges. such as quantum technologies, advanced imaging, and innovations in materials science. The department is involved in the delivery of undergraduate physics and mathematics modules at all levels, as well as the PhD programme. Research interests in the Department of Physics currently include particle physics, condensed matter physics and materials science, dynamical systems, theoretical physics, and astrophysics. We invite applications for the position of Associate Professor or Assistant Professor. Exceptional candidates may apply for the position of Full Professor. The Role and the Department The Student Journey Futures (SJF) Programme, jointly led by Computing and Information Services (CIS) and Student and Academic Services Directorate (SASD), is delivering a multi-million pound programme of change. This role will be a 2-year fixed term role on one of the universities key strategic projects. This role will report into the SJF Programme Director but will work in a matrix management structure with close links into our Strategy Delivery Unit for alignment to our Change and Project Delivery approaches. The Strategy Delivery Unit is focussed on changing the way Durham University thinks about and delivers change, primarily focusing on the co-ordination and professional delivery of the University strategy. POSITION INTRODUCTION The Department of Physics at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) invites applications for a faculty position in AI for Theoretical and Physics-Informed Modelling. We seek a highly motivated and well-qualified candidate with a strong background in theoretical and computational physics, with expertise in physics-based modelling, numerical simulation, and AI-enhanced scientific computing. Research interests may include (but are not limited to) interstellar medium and astrochemical modelling, multiphysics systems, complex physical processes, and data-driven scientific simulation. The successful candidate is expected to play a key role in developing physics-informed artificial intelligence methods that integrate physical laws, numerical solvers, and machine learning, with strong emphasis on interpretability, reliability, and scientific validity. The position will contribute substantially to both high-quality teaching and the long-term development of AI-for-Science education and research at XJTLU.
