About Tver State University

Tver State University is located in Tver, in the Upper Volga Region of Russia. Its history begins in 1870 when a private pedagogical school was founded. It was renamed Tver State University in 1990.

Tver is a university city so the population is made up primarily of young students. Although it isn’t as busy as some of Russia’s bigger cities, there are plenty of social activities for students to enjoy such as art galleries, swimming pools, theatres and bars. For those seeking a livelier atmosphere Russia’s capital, Moscow, is only a short bus or train ride away from the campus.

Comprised of 15 faculties and 82 departments, the university offers students a variety of courses to choose from. As of 2015, students have also had the opportunity to study double degree postgraduate courses. These have been available to both Russian and international students.

Committed to developing educational and cultural relationships, the university has partnerships with more than 30 international universities. It offers students the opportunity to study abroad as well as providing education to international students.

As one of the largest scientific and educational centres in Central Russia, the university boasts 20 scientific schools that carry out research throughout the academic year. Their research activities are recognised both nationally and internationally.

The university’s mission is to prepare qualified specialists in a variety of fields including physio-mathematical, natural, human and social sciences, economy and administration, and education and pedagogy. Its graduates have successfully gone on to work for economic and social organisations, schools, and scientific institutions.
