Founded in 1992 as an affiliate of Cumhuriyet University, Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University is a public university based in Takat, a city of around 130,000 people in Turkish Anatolia’s mid-Black Sea region. It is named after Gazi Osman Nuri Pasha, a 19th Century military hero born in the city.
The university defines itself as "a transparent, participatory, enterprising, knowledge and technology producing, contributing to the economic, social and cultural structure of the region".
Its mission is "to educate entrepreneurs and innovators who have universal values, respectful to people, society and nature and will contribute to the socio-cultural and economic development of the country, to conduct scientific studies to produce solutions to regional, national and international problems, and to present the accumulation of the university to the service of humanity".
In 2019 it held a public competition to design a new university logo.
The student roll of 34,740 in 2017-8 was spread across three campuses. The faculties of medicine and dentistry, the University Hospital and the Institute of Health Sciences are in the city centre, with most other activity is on the Tasliciftlik campus around five miles outside. There were 13 faculties, four institutes and 15 vocational schools, 11 on sites outside Takat.
Initiatives from the agricultural faculty include the cultivation of more than a million seedlings under an automated greenhouse system and the distribution of 10,000 grape vine seedlings to local farmers in June 2019.
Childhood education studies has a dedicated research centre and, since 2013, a degree course admitting 35 students each year. Events hosted during the summer of 2019 included the Black Sea Symposium on "Sustainable Agriculture and Environment" and a workshop on cannabis production.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Theoretical Evolutionary Biology Modelling the Evolution of Sex-Specific Differences in Life History and Immunity Supervisor: Dr. Piret Avila Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Helsinki The Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Academy Research Fellow Dr. Piret Avila are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral researcher to develop theoretical work on the evolution of sex-specific differences in immunity and life history traits. The position involves developing mathematical models to understand how natural selection shapes sex-specific immune strategies. The goal is to generate quantitative predictions testable against empirical data from diverse ecological contexts.
