Tokai University is a private research institution in Japan that was created by Shigeyoshi Matsumae, a former politician, in 1942. The name “Tokai” refers to the Pacific Ocean.

About 1,600 academic staff teach 30,000 students at Tokai and 700 of them come from overseas. The institution is made up of eight campuses spread across the island nation. They are: Shonan, Yoyogi, Takanawa, Isehara, Shimizu, Sapporo, Kumamoto, and Aso. The Isehara campus is situated beside Tokai University Hospital, while waterfront-Shimizu houses the School of Marine Science, and Aso, which is located in a national park, is home to the School of Agriculture.

Five of the campuses are on the central island of Honshu, which is home to the Japanese capital Tokyo, while two campuses are on the island of Hokkaido and the other is on Kyushu.

There are 21 undergraduate schools at Tokai and all courses at this level are taught in Japanese. A year-long Japanese language programme is available for international students. As well as offering an array of courses across the humanities and sciences, the university was the first in Japan to run a pilot training programme in association with the airline All Nippon Airways.

In terms of postgraduate study, there are 20 graduate schools and students can specialise in one of 42 subject areas.

The university has an established international exchange scheme involving more than 35 countries as well as offices in Austria, Thailand, South Korea, Denmark, and Hawaii, US.

Well-known alumni include the sprinter Shingo Suetsugu, an Olympic bronze medallist; judoka Yasuhiro Yamashita, an Olympic gold medallist; and Eiko Harada, a president of McDonald’s Japan.

They should have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua), and a track record of high-quality research demonstrated by publications and research grants. They should also be well organized, responsible, detail-minded, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team.  The appointee will participate in basic, clinical, and translational research in the area of liver cancer and liver transplantation. He/She will plan and execute research; prepare scientific publications, grant proposals and reports; liaise and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders; and perform other duties as assigned. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment on fixed-term basis will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. About Us The CRADLE SMART (Community empoweRment Approaches to Develop Local, Early Sustainable MAteRnity care with co-developed Technology) care bundle aims to empower women and health workers by co-developing and evaluating innovative, low-cost, accessible, high-quality point-of-care (POC) diagnostic technologies, AI-enhanced ultrasound tools, and mobile technology applications. The Consortium brings together industry partners with world-leading research groups with extensive experience working in Sierra Leone, Zambia, and other L/MIC. By prioritizing locally driven, evidence-based solutions, CRADLE SMART will significantly improve maternal and neonatal outcomes in L/MICs. Through co-development with partners and communities, we will ensure sustainability, scalability, and maximum impact in reducing preventable maternal and perinatal deaths.  About The Role Reporting to the CRADLE SMART Co-Chief Investigators, the Head of Programmes CRADLE SMART is responsible for the management, delivery and reporting on the FCDO funded CRADLE SMART programmes of research including: ensuring the high-quality delivery of research, donor reporting, contract compliance, monitoring, learning and evaluation, overseeing budget spend, managing relationships with co-applicants and downstream partners, and ensuring coordination with parallel programmes in Sierra Leone and Zambia. The Head of Programmes will lead the programmes implementation, and downstream partners’ finance, and operations teams to ensure careful adherence to collaboration agreements as well as donor/grants contracts compliance. They will coordinate the programme implementation teams to meet donor standards and requirements for key submissions. The Head of Programmes will develop strategies and donor compatible internal systems to sustain high compliance performance across CRADLE SMART programmes and in collaboration with implementation teams, carry out high quality reporting. They will coordinate key programme oversight meetings, including Study Steering Committee, Technical Working Group and Co-applicant meetings in accordance with research best practice and donor requirements. As part of their role, the successful candidate will ensure regular review and updates to the CRADLE SMART programme risk register and mitigate programme delivery risks, liaising with donors early to ensure agile programming in the face of obstacles. This is a part time post (21 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 March 2028. About You To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria A postgraduate degree in public health, global health or a related field, or the extensive relevant experience in these fields. Extensive experience of the programmatic and operational management of research programmes in a development setting, including managing teams, programme delivery, recruitment, monitoring, evaluation and learning, financial management, grant compliance and risk management. Experience of managing large research grants in multi-partner consortia, ideally with FCDO grant management experience. Description The Robot Learning & Control Lab (REAL Lab) at NYU Abu Dhabi is seeking an outstanding Post-Doctoral Associate to contribute to cutting-edge research in robot intelligence, machine learning, and AI-driven manipulation. This position offers the opportunity to work on real-world robotic systems and develop novel algorithms at the intersection of robot learning, control, and AI for physical systems. The postdoc will work on projects focusing on one or more of the following: Robot Learning & Autonomy – Developing algorithms that allow robots to learn (via exploration or imitation) from interaction, adapt to new tasks, and generalize across environments. Dexterous Manipulation – Advancing robotic grasping, in-hand manipulation, and adaptable object handling in complex real-world scenarios, including those involving deformable objects and uncertain conditions.. Semantic Navigation & Mapping – Designing solutions for robot navigation, for Mobile Manipulators, that integrate environmental semantics and spatial reasoning. AI for Physical Systems – Leveraging machine learning and AI to improve performance, safety, and adaptability of robots, autonomous vehicles, and other intelligent machines. Safe and Certified Control for manipulation: Designing control algorithms that ensure passivity, Lyapunov stability, and safety for human-robot collaboration. Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in Robotics, Control Engineering, Machine Learning, AI, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Strong focus on robot manipulation learning & control, and differential geometry is a plus. Knowledge of safe control methods including Lyapunov stability, barrier functions, and certified learning frameworks. Hands-on experience with robotic manipulators (preferebly Franka Emika R3 robots) and real-world experimentation. Demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation, research-oriented thinking, and a drive to operationalize robotic systems for real-world tasks. Strong publication record in top-tier venues: ICRA, IROS, RA-L, T-RO, IJRR, CoRL, NeurIPS, RSS, CDC, TAC. Description Laboratory for Advanced Neuroengineering and Translational Medicine at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to recruit a postdoctoral research associate to join this new initiative focusing on designing and developing novel medical devices for ultimate human use. Laboratory for Advanced Neuroengineering and Translational Medicine oversees a variety of exciting projects developing new treatments and diagnostics for cardiovascular, neurologic, and metabolic diseases. The successful applicant will join a number of fascinating projects on engineering novel approaches to modulate physiology and neural activity in the brain, gastrointestinal (GI) tract, and other peripheral organs. These projects have a high potential for translation towards treating a variety of neurologic and metabolic disorders. These approaches entail device design and manufacturing, drug conjugation, neuroscience, and preclinical model experiments. The candidate will work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment alongside PhD-level engineers and scientists, graduate students, and full-time researchers. They will also have the chance to contribute to other projects within CENTMED, working on cutting-edge initiatives spanning metabolic, cardiovascular, and neurologic diseases.
