Thaksin University can trace its roots to the first institution of higher education in Southern Thailand, a teacher training college opened in 1954.

It has been through a range of iterations including Srinakharinwirot University branch campus before emerging as a separate public university under its current name in 1996.

Its campuses are now divided between Songkhla and Phatthalung, a two hour drive to the north.

There are two campuses in Songkhla. The main 56-acre campus hosts the faculties of humanities and social sciences, education, fine arts, economics and business administration, law and the graduate school as well as the international college. The 9.5-acre site on Koh Yo Island is home to the Institute of South Thai Studies, created in 1978 to focus on the arts and culture of the region, together with its Music Complex and Folklore Museum.

The main Phatthalung campus, opened in 1989, occupies 1400 acres and is home to faculties of agriculture and bioscience, law, nursing, engineering, technology and community development, and health and sports science. A second 600-acre site accommodates the College of Community Wisdom.

The International College continues to operate a classical doctorate based exclusively on research, with no coursework element. From 2023 it has offered a doctorate in sustainable development.

Its international partnerships reflect its regional location with four Malaysian partners, five from China, two each from Japan, Taiwan and the Phillippines but others further afield in France, Brazil and Australia.

About Us We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Reader or Professor of Neonatal Medicine to replace a retiring colleague to help lead a large scale programme of neonatal research in conjunction with the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. The post is 10 PA, with 5 academic Pas, 4 direct clinical care, and 1 supporting professional activities. The post holder will be appointed in the Research Department of Early Life Imaging, School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences (BMEIS), where their duties will include academic, clinical and teaching work. BMEIS is a cutting-edge research and teaching division, dedicated to the development, clinical translation, and clinical application of medical imaging and computational modelling technologies. The School is placed within St. Thomas’ Hospital and therefore offers an exciting opportunity to perform truly translational research by supporting rapid translation of basic science into clinical applications. The clinical side of the post will be based in the Evelina London Neonatal unit, located at St Thomas’ Hospital London, where they will join an existing team of 18 Consultants. Candidates wishing to work less than full time can also be accommodated and are encouraged to apply. The Evelina London Neonatal Unit is one of the largest in the United Kingdom, with 900-1000 admissions per year (of which ~200 were The unit is one of three NICU in the South London Neonatal ODN. Facilities on the Neonatal Unit were purpose built, alongside the maternity unit in 2002 and we are in the process of planned refurbishment. The postholder will be involved in providing clinical leadership, hands on care and training in neonatal intensive (IC), high dependency (HD) and special care (SC) on the tertiary neonatal unit of ELCH. There will also be commitments to antenatal consultations for women expecting babies with neonatal problems, oversight of care Transitional Care and on the Postnatal Ward and an option to take on neonatal outpatient follow-up commitments. The service weeks entail blocks on either IC, HD or SC areas, with additional clinical commitments in the job plan for some non-attending weeks. About The Role The post holder will: Take a major part in the academic work of the Department in the School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences, led by Professor Tomoki Arichi, working with clinical and non-clinical researchers with the aim of obtaining major funding for large scale programmes of cutting edge research and conducting research at an international standard. To supervise and co-supervise clinical and non-clinical researchers (including PhD and MD students). To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. To develop an independent research programme and develop leadership as a clinical scientist. To contribute to the dissemination of scientific results by means of writing papers for publication in leading academic journals, presenting orally and in poster form at academic meetings, seminars and conferences. It is expected that the postholder will wish to continue to contribute to the Clinical work of the Evelina London Children’s Hospital and appropriate arrangements will be made through the Medical Directorate to facilitate this. To contribute to the development of research capacity and clinical practice in the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. About You  To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria Full registration with valid license to practice, PhD qualified in relevant subject area (or pending results), MRCPCH or equivalent and on GMC Specialist Register for Neonatal Medicine or within six months of attaining CCT in Neonatal Medicine. Experience in complex and tertiary neonatal care at senior registrar or consultant level. Ability to coordinate complex clinical care within multidisciplinary team. The School occupies facilities across the Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Denmark Hill campuses of King’s College London and comprises over 65 academic groups, hosting 400 staff and 110 PhD students.  About The Role This BHF-funded position is for a talented and enthusiastic postdoctoral scientist to work on “Investigating novel roles of nesprin and the LINC complex in cardiomyocyte mechanotransduction”. The project will involve the use of wide range of experimental techniques including in vivo physiology, molecular biology, biochemistry and histology. We therefore seek to appoint an individual with a strong background in mouse model of cardiac and skeletal muscle disease as well as good experience of cell/molecular biology. Experience in surgery and in vivo phenotyping (e.g. high resolution echocardiography) is highly desirable. The postholder will be part of a vibrant multi-disciplinary research group working on several different aspects of cardiovascular pathophysiology, within the King’s BHF Centre of Research Excellence which has state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.  This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 19.5 months from contract start date. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop a demonstration scale low pressure membrane system in collaboration with Atera Water Pte Ltd. Key Responsibilities Applicants are invited for a Research Engineer in low pressure membrane system (LPMS). Reporting to the Project Principal Investigator (PI), you will assist in all administration matters including overseeing, planning, forecasting, budgeting as well as ensuring the smooth running of the daily operations for the project Assists in co-supervision of final year projects (FYP) or capstone projects students or student helpers under the Project PI. Assist in designing, planning and setting up of a demonstration scale LPMS plant at a site allocated by PUB. Assist in designing, planning and setting up of a lab-scale LPMS plant at a SIT Punggol campus Assist in carrying out of experiment, data logging and analysis of data collected. Work with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) results generated by an expert to correlate with experimental data Assists the PI in drafting of reports, conference proceedings and journal articles based on the outcome of the projects. Prepares and shares fortnightly report of results from the computations with the program director and PI. Support the procurement and maintenance of the software/hardware under the charge of the PI Any other adhoc duties assigned. Requirements The appointee should have a strong foundation in fluid dynamics and understanding of fluid (air and water) flow is important. Appointee should also have experience with design of experiments, carrying out experiments and results analysis. Prior experience working with membrane systems will be a plus.
