The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Technology Management to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term (6 year) tenure-track professorship with the possibility for promotion to a tenured W3. The professorship is endowed by the Dieter Schwarz Stiftung. Scientific Environment The professorship will be assigned to the TUM School of Management and located in Munich. The TUM School of Management is one of the leading management schools in Germany and internationally. Our focus in research and teaching is at the interface of management and technology, where we aim to make a real impact. Our faculty members publish regularly in leading journals relevant to the school’s departments Finance & Accounting, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Strategy & Leadership, Economics & Policy and Operations & Technology, and maintain close ties in interdisciplinary research with other schools and industry. Responsibilities The responsibilities include research and teaching, third party funding acquisition, as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Technology Management with a focus on transformative technologies such as e.g., artificial intelligence, digital platform enterprises, or green technologies. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the school’s bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs, particularly in the Bachelor in Management and Technology, Master in Management (MIM), Master in Management and Innovation (MMI), and TUM’s Executive MBA Program. Courses in R&D Strategy, Technology Management, and Technology Commercialization are of special interest to the School. Qualifications We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. The Role and the Department Durham Chemistry is a thriving centre for teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and for world-leading research in the chemical sciences. The Department has a long tradition of interdisciplinary research which covers a wide scientific spectrum, from the development of bioactive probes through to the theory and computational study of molecular interactions. Research in the area of biological chemistry is well supported by state-of-the-art facilities located within the Department The Molecular Sciences for Medicine (MoSMed) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) programme is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) from 2019-2027. The programme is delivered by Durham University in partnership with Newcastle University. It harnesses Durham's expertise in physical sciences with Newcastle's incisive biomedical approach to provide a unique offering, both scientifically and for the student experience. The student training programme aims to ensure the next generation of UK researchers are equipped with the specialist skills required for working at the interface between molecular sciences and medicine. The CDT features over 20 biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and related sector partners from the UK and beyond. The Department of Chemistry is looking to recruit a 0.8 FTE MoSMed CDT Manager. The post holder will provide administrative support to the academic team as well as scientific support to the finishing cohort. This will include monitoring student progress, maintaining metrics on student performance; coordination of industrial placements and organisation of the 2027 conference in Durham. The role holder will provide student support including resolving queries and providing information on academic and welfare related issues, making referrals to other staff, teams and services where appropriate, escalating more specialist and complex queries or issues, as required. In addition, the successful candidate will work with the MoSMed CDT technician to support students' projects when feasible. Working closely with counterparts at Newcastle University the role holder will be responsible for collating and reporting data required by the programme sponsors, including financial/budgetary data ensuring that accurate and up to date financial records are maintained and expenditure meets compliance criteria. General Requirements The department is interested in hiring a new Assistant Professor in ethics (broadly understood to include value theory, normative ethics, metaethics, and applied ethics) or in philosophy of AI. Candidates should have obtained, or be about to be awarded, a PhD in Philosophy, and possess a strong track record of publications in the top journals in the field. Candidates without publications will not be considered. The appointee is expected to produce internationally excellent research and obtain competitively awarded research grants. Teaching experience at the undergraduate or taught master’s level will be an advantage. The appointee is also expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and to design and offer courses in their area of expertise. The teaching load will normally be four courses per year, which may be reduced under various circumstances, e.g. on receipt of external research funding or due to graduate supervision. English is the language of instruction with the possible exception of courses in Chinese philosophy. Appointment The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Commencing salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The minimum basic salary is over HKD 934,000 / USD 120,000 per year on the current salary scale. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
