The role

We are looking to recruit two highly motivated post-doctoral research fellows to work in the Rolls-Royce ThermoFluid Systems University Technology Centre at the University of Surrey. The ThermoFluids Systems UTC at Surrey specialises in the design of secondary air systems for gas turbine engines and you will be working on the technology for the next generation of Rolls-Royce engines. The project will involve both code development and simulation of engine systems. You will be working closely with engineers at Rolls-Royce and with academics, postdoctoral research fellows and PhD students at the other University project partners.

The contract will be for 3 years.

The project would ideally suit candidates with an Engineering background with strong mathematical or programming skills or candidates with an applied Mathematics, Computer Science or AI background looking to move towards Engineering.

Description

The Research Center on Stability, Instability and Turbulence (SITE) a center of the Research Institute, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work in the fluid mechanics laboratory for experimental fluid dynamics. 

SITE is inviting applications for fully-funded postdoctoral research associate positions. SITE is highly interdisciplinary and aims to develop novel enabling technology on hydrodynamic stability analysis that has applications in the study of the development of singularities, the long-time behavior of complex systems, the formation of spatial patterns, the transition between stability and instability, and the first steps of transition towards turbulence that appear in several disciplines across science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation.

Candidates must hold (or be close to completing) a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics and Applied Physics or a related field. Working in a newly established fluid dynamics laboratory at NYU Abu Dhabi, candidates are expected to have a strong interest in experimental research and collaborate with applied mathematicians closely. PhD holders with a solid publication record and aims for an academic career are encouraged to apply.

Description

The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) at NYU Abu Dhabi invites qualified applicants with a doctorate degree in the areas of electrical or computer engineering or computer science, or related fields to apply. A strong publication record is encouraged and previous experience in areas such as Neural network vulnerabilities and defenses, Anomaly detection, Adversarial machine learning, Computer vision, and Autonomous Robots is desired.

The successful applicant will work on various projects on robotics and computer vision, controls, and machine learning and their security. The work will include algorithm design, prototype implementation (e.g., in MATLAB/Python), deployment to robotics applications; onboard computational hardware using the Robot Operating System), and experimental testing (on unmanned vehicle swarms). A solid competency with the standard implementation tools used in machine learning and embedded systems (e.g., C, C++, Linux, PyTorch, TensorFlow, MATLAB, Python, Robot Operating System) is required.

The position is open to PhDs with backgrounds in AI, and/or computer vision and robotics/controls, and with less than 5 years of experience after receiving their PhD. The candidate is expected to work in a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary environment with other post-doctoral associates, PhD and undergraduate students, as well as faculty members (both in NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU New York). It is expected that applicants have a strong publication record in the aforementioned areas. The applicants are also expected to have strong analytical, communication, and writing skills.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a UKRI-funded fellowship project modelling how health and care needs change across England's diverse neighbourhoods as the population ages. You'll work closely with the Fellow (Dr Richard Green) during a focused period at the heart of the project's analytical work. This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) fixed-term contract until January 2027.

You will:


	Support the development of multilevel longitudinal models estimating health transition probabilities (e.g. functional decline, multimorbidity, care dependency) using linked ELSA and neighbourhood-level data
	Contribute to integrating these models into the English Future Elderly Model (E-FEM)
	Help translate modelling outputs into clear visualisations and summaries for policy and practice audiences, including NHS Integrated Care Boards and local authorities
	Work within the UK Data Service's secure research environment, applying rigorous approaches to data management and disclosure control
	Contribute to the preparation of policy briefs and support the planning of stakeholder workshops towards the end of the project


This is a hands-on research role suited to someone who wants to build applied experience in longitudinal and simulation modelling, working on a project with direct relevance to national health and social care policy.

About you

You will have:


	A postgraduate qualification (or equivalent research experience) in statistics, data science, or a related quantitative discipline
	Demonstrable experience conducting statistical or longitudinal data analysis using R (or a similar statistical programming language)
	The ability to work independently on technical tasks while communicating findings clearly to a non-specialist audience

The role

An exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Ecology in the School of Biosciences (part time, fixed term contract up to August 2027). The post holder is expected to complement our existing strengths in Biological Sciences, Veterinary Biosciences and related programmes and have the potential to collaborate with colleagues, in order to deliver the best possible learning and teaching experience for undergraduate students. The candidate is expected to be responsible for teaching students in the School of Biosciences in the field of Ecology, Conservation and Biodiversity.

Main responsibilities include (but not limited to):

Teaching delivery and development: Develop teaching methods, materials, technologies and learning environments which enhance the students learning opportunities whilst creating an environment for understanding and enthusiasm amongst students. Develop appropriate criteria for the assessment of programmes of work, practical sessions, fieldwork and examinations in subject specialism, and provide appropriate protocols for excellent feedback to students. Extend transform and apply new knowledge from pedagogic developments to teaching and appropriate external activities as part of an integrated approach to academic practice. Conduct individual or collaborative projects related to discipline or pedagogy. Maintain and develop professional expertise and registration requirements with appropriate professional body under the guidance of a senior colleague.

Student pastoral care: Develop and use pastoral care skills to support the academic development of students and ensure a good student experience. Act as personal tutor and give first line support before referring students on to appropriate services.

Management and Administration: Take on administrative duties as required, which contribute to the efficient management and administration of the Faculty/Department. Be fully involved with students at all levels of support. Leadership of undergraduate teaching modules.

About you

Post holders are expected to hold a degree, higher degree or appropriate equivalent professional qualification (with an expectation of holding a higher degree for those teaching at post graduate level) in the field of Ecology or closely related.

Post holder to demonstrate:


	Evidence of high level of teaching and presentational skills
	Evidence of administrative/organisational skills
	Evidence of knowledge and understanding of current developments in the relevant discipline or profession.
