For this faculty position, we are looking for candidates with a background in business, communication or design, who have extensive experience in sustainability management.

Essential


	8 or more years of industry and/or applied academia experience and knowledge in enhancing environmental sustainability through sustainability management.
	Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of sustainability measurement and management, such as life cycle analysis, circular economy, sustainability road mapping (e.g., decarbonisation for net-zero transition), sustainability change management, and organisational sustainability strategy development.
	Knowledge in sustainability reporting standards and frameworks, carbon markets, and regulatory developments.
	Motivated to lead, develop and teach curriculum related to sustainability both for pre-employment learners and continuous education and training.
	Proven ability to develop sustainability solutions through applied projects.


Desirable


	Experience in sustainability related projects with strong integration of the three pillars of sustainable development.
	Knowledge in sustainability-related technologies such as carbon capture, utilisation and storage, as well as business practices and models such as carbon trading and circular economy.
	Expertise in carbon accounting and carbon compliance rules (e.g., Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, ISO 14064, Singapore’s Carbon Tax Regime).
	Knowledge and experience in sustainable finance.
	Experience in industry-academia partnership projects, such as capstone or research projects.
	Experience in the development of a Community of Practice (COP) that brings together academia, industry, and public stakeholders.


Successful candidates will join the Business, Communication and Design (BCD) Cluster (one of five academic clusters in SIT), as members of a team of accomplished experts who are passionate about higher education and deeply involved in industry transformation through applied research programmes.

We will prioritise collegial and team-spirited candidates with either (a) an earned Ph.D. or equivalent from a reputable university with specialisation in any of the above-mentioned areas and some relevant work experience, or (b) extensive industry experience with demonstrated strong technical expertise in the above-mentioned areas.

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to join the MIMIC programme: “An interconnected multi‑organ platform to recreate the complex pathophysiology of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD)”, a major UKRI-funded, interdisciplinary research initiative involving leading academic, clinical, and industrial partners across the UK, Europe, and the USA.

MASLD is a complex multisystem metabolic disease involving pathological cross‑talk between the liver, adipose tissue, gut, and immune system. The MIMIC programme aims to develop human, immunocompetent, patient‑derived multi‑organ models, using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and organ‑on‑chip technologies, to better understand disease mechanisms and accelerate therapeutic discovery. This PDRA post focuses on the development and characterisation of iPSC‑derived adipose tissue models and their integration into multi‑tissue platforms.

The Role

The successful candidate will play a central role in contributing to the generation of biomimetic, immunocompetent adipose tissue constructs derived from human iPSCs. Working closely with stem cell biologists, immunologists, and bioengineers across the MIMIC consortium, the PDRA will:


	Develop and optimise iPSC‑derived adipocyte differentiation protocols 
	Generate 3D adipose tissue organoids incorporating stromal, endothelial, and immune cell populations
	Perform in‑depth molecular, phenotypic and metabolic characterisation of adipose models
	Investigate inflammatory and metabolic dysfunction relevant to MASLD
	Contribute to multi‑organ integration, i.e. adipose–liver–gut cross‑talk 
	Support benchmarking of in‑vitro findings against clinical and patient‑derived data


This role provides an exceptional opportunity to work at the cutting edge of human disease modelling, immunometabolism, and regenerative medicine within a large, well‑funded collaborative programme.

About you

You will hold a PhD/DPhil or equivalent a relevant discipline along with:


	Strong hands‑on experience of stem cell-derived models
	Demonstrated expertise in adipose tissue biology and adipocyte differentiation
	Experience with 3D cell culture, organoid systems, or co‑culture models
	Solid grounding in molecular and cellular biology techniques 
	Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a large interdisciplinary programme

The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralised pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers bring specialised and deep technical expertise developed through extensive industry experience. They provide a critical industry perspective to student learning and applied research, complementing the academic expertise of faculty by translating industry practices and real-world applications into the curriculum.

The Professional Officer (Industrial Biotechnology) will work closely with faculty, students, as well as internal and external stakeholders to strengthen operational and translational capabilities.  The role supports:


	The Bioprocess Innovation Platform (BIP) and related research activities, including feedstock processing, fermentation, downstream processing, and prototype sample preparation at laboratory and pilot scales;
	Industry-facing project execution and translational delivery in industrial biotechnology;
	Applied learning and Continuing Education and Training (CET) activities.


Key Responsibilities:


	Work closely with faculty and internal stakeholders to ensure the smooth planning and execution of BIP-related activities and projects.
	Manage and support operations of the pilot-scale microbial bioprocess facilities (Bioprocess Innovation Platform, BIP), including:
	
		Project- and operation-related procurement;
		Consumables planning and resource allocation;
		tilities management (scheduling, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair coordination);
		Analytical and process data capture, analysis and documentation;
		Project documentation, reporting and follow-up actions;
		Waste management and disposal coordination;
		Laboratory safety and compliance.
	
	
	Provide hands-on technical support across feedstock processing, fermentation (up to 500L), downstream processing, and prototype sample preparation.
	Coordinate and manage external engagements for BIP, including:
	
		Technical services;
		Service contract work;
		Collaborative research projects.
	
	
	Lead or co-lead technical work packages in applied research and innovation projects with industry partners where appropriate.
	Strengthen SIT’s Industrial Biotechnology capability by supporting end-to-end translational delivery across upstream, bioprocess, and downstream domains.
	Contribute to CET delivery, especially laboratory sessions for credit-bearing micro-credentials in Industrial Biotechnology, including:
	
		Lab manual development and maintenance;
		Experiment design and execution;
		Troubleshooting;
		Assessment and lab report management.
	
	
	Support teaching and supervision in applied learning activities, including laboratory classes and student projects (Final Year Projects, Capstone, IWSP, etc.).
	Supervise, train, and mentor facility users on safe and effective operation of equipment, workflows, and experimental procedures.


Qualifications and Experience:


	Bachelor’s degree in Biochemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field. A Master’s degree, PhD, and/or relevant professional certifications are advantageous.
	Minimum 8 years of relevant industry or pilot-scale experience in fermentation, bioprocess development and operations, downstream processing, scale-up, or related biomanufacturing operations.
	Demonstrated strong hands-on competence in:
	
		Equipment operation;
		Process development and troubleshooting;
		SOP development and implementation;
		Laboratory safety and compliance;
		Analytical and process data handling.
	
	
	Practical experience in managing or supporting shared facilities, pilot-scale operations, or translational project workflows.
	Experience in coordinating across multiple stakeholders for technical project delivery.
	Strong mentoring and supervisory skills, with an interest in working closely with students in an academic environment.
