Work that matters The Senior Technical Officer provides high-quality and operational support for Adelaide Microscopy. The role delivers expert services in plant sample preparation, histology and imaging using advanced light and electron microscopy techniques, supporting high-quality research across a broad range of plant science disciplines. Working closely with researchers, students and external collaborators, the position provides specialist expertise, advice and training to maximise the use of advanced microscopy capabilities and contribute to world-class research outcomes. The role is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of microscopy laboratories and associated equipment, ensuring resources are safe, compliant, well maintained and available to support research activities. Key responsibilities include coordinating equipment maintenance, calibration and servicing; health, safety and regulatory compliance; maintaining asset and operational records; and contributing to the continuous improvement of standard operating procedures. The role also partners with academic, professional and external stakeholders to facilitate access to microscopy services, deliver user training and inductions, coordinate facility scheduling, contribute to compliance audits, and support workshops and training activities that promote the safe, effective and efficient use of the University's imaging capabilities. Working under the direction of senior Adelaide Microscopy staff, the role will also develop and apply innovative microscopy techniques to support evolving research needs and enhance service capability.
