Founded in 1968, Technical University Dortmund (TU) is situated in the Ruhr region of Germany. It was established at a time of decline in the country’s coal and steel industry and its emergence coincided with an economic shift away from heavy industry and towards technology.

Today, TU is known for its innovation in physics, electrical engineering, chemistry and economics. The university comprises 16 faculties across academic disciplines ranging from science and engineering to social sciences and culture studies. It has an endowment of around €161 million.

The university also boasts a Centre for Teacher Training, four central scientific institutions, seven associated research institutes and five affiliated institutes, including the German Institute for Civic Art. The Mathetower (Mathematics Tower), home to the university’s Faculty of Mathematics, is one of its most prominent buildings.

There are close to 33,000 students enrolled at TU, a figure which includes an international intake of around 11 per cent. Academic staff total more than 6,000 with
300 professors among them.

The university is organised across two campuses, the North and South campuses, located a couple of miles from downtown Dortmund. Since 1984, they have been linked by an automated hanging monorail system known as the H-Bahn that crosses the area’s pastoral surroundings at a height of about 50 feet.

TU has many links with international universities as well as a number from within Europe, operating through the Erasmus programme. These include Newcastle University, Liverpool John Moores University and Dublin City University, as well as others in countries such as Italy, Sweden, Hungary, Holland, Turkey and the Czech Republic.

It is also a member of the China-NRW University Alliance, a strategic alliance between the top six universities in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany (the country's most populous state) with higher education institutions in China.

In 2006, TU hosted the 11th RoboWorld Cup and has its own robot team known as the Dortmund Droids.

Job Purpose The Professional Officer and Design Factory Centre Manager plays a key role in advancing SIT’s mission to integrate learning, research, and innovation through design-led approaches. The position supports the management and strategic development of the Design Factory, leading human-centred research, applied innovation projects, and industry collaborations that bridge education and enterprise. The incumbent will apply design thinking, systems thinking, and future-oriented methods to guide multidisciplinary teams in creating impactful products, services, and experiences. This role also oversees project management, partner engagement, and operational administration to ensure the Centre’s effective delivery of teaching, research, and partnership outcomes. Key Responsibilities Human Factors and User-Centred Research Conduct applied research using design thinking, systems thinking, and futures methodologies. Apply human factors and ergonomics to enhance product, service, and experience design outcomes. Facilitate user studies, usability testing, and co-creation workshops. Mentor students and project teams on user research and design process application. Product and Service Development Lead or support innovation projects spanning physical and digital domains. Translate research insights into design opportunities and prototypes. Support iterative prototyping, testing, and validation with stakeholders. Contribute to the development of new tools, methods, and frameworks for design innovation. Partner and Business Development Develop and manage relationships with industry, community, and government partners. Identify collaboration opportunities and prepare proposals, project scopes, and agreements. Represent the Design Factory in outreach, exhibitions, and partnership forums. Project Management Plan, implement, and monitor multiple concurrent projects. Manage budgets, procurement, and reporting for internal and external initiatives. Ensure projects meet deliverables, quality standards, and compliance requirements. Administrative and Operational Duties Oversee daily operations of the Design Factory, including facilities, safety, and scheduling. Support academic delivery through preparation of learning resources, demonstrations, and supervision of student work. Maintain records, documentation, and performance metrics for projects and collaborations. Strategic Planning and Execution Contribute to strategic planning and long-term development of the Design Factory. Identify opportunities for programme growth in human-centred design, circular innovation, and applied R&D. Support institutional goals through cross-cluster collaboration and innovation leadership. Job Requirements Degree in Design, Human Factors, Industrial Design, Engineering, Innovation Management, or a related discipline. Minimum 5 years of professional experience in user-centred design, innovation consulting, or R&D. Experience in project management and stakeholder engagement within an academic or industry context. Familiarity with design research methods, prototyping, and applied learning environments. Prior experience managing facilities, partnerships, or interdisciplinary teams is an advantage.

The Department of Sociology was founded in 1967 as the first sociology department in Hong Kong. It is based within the Faculty of Social Sciences and encompasses sociology, demography, criminology, and anthropology, fostering an interdisciplinary approach to the study of social issues anywhere in the world. The Department has strong traditions in qualitative research, particularly ethnographic and participatory methods, and has expanded its expertise in quantitative research, social statistics and demography. The 2026 QS World University Ranking rated the Department the 24th among the world’s top 200 universities in the subject of sociology. The Department offers a range of innovative and engaging taught programmes, including undergraduate major/minor programmes in Sociology, Criminology, and Media & Cultural Studies. At the current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  The Research Engineer will play a key role in automated wildlife identification and classification from trap camera images using cutting-edge computer vision technology. Working closely with the Principal Investigator, Co-PI, and interdisciplinary research team, RE will develop and implement deep learning algorithms to analyze trap camera footage for wildlife monitoring and conservation efforts. Job Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project together with the PI, Co-PI, and research team to ensure timely achievement of project deliverables. Undertake the following specific responsibilities in the project: Develop, train, and optimise deep learning models for wildlife species identification, classification, and segmentation using real-world datasets. Design and implement software modules to integrate the models into a working system prototype. Perform data annotation. Conduct experiments, analyse results, and iterate models for improved accuracy and efficiency. Prepare project documentation, technical reports, and academic publications. Collaborate with industry partners and contribute to technology transfer efforts. Support the design of simple web interfaces or dashboards to visualise CV model outputs, working alongside developers when needed. Contribute to system integration by applying familiarity with backend/frontend workflows, ensuring CV models can be accessed through user-facing applications. Assist in deployment of CV solutions on cloud or edge platforms with basic interface support for end-users. The candidate is to liaise and communicate with any internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met and to perform any other adhoc duties assigned by Supervisor.  Technical Requirements: Possess strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in: Deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras) Computer vision models for object detection and classification (e.g., YOLO, R-CNN variants, EfficientNet, ResNet, U-Net) Image processing and computer vision techniques  Python programming and relevant libraries (e.g., OpenCV, NumPy, scikit-learn, Pandas, Matplotlib) Experience with dataset preparation, model training, and performance evaluation Candidates with strong computer vision expertise and proven success in 1-2 substantial CV projects are welcome to apply regardless of domain-specific experience Familiarity with Web/Full-Stack Development: Basic understanding of frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue.js) Eposure to backend development (e.g., Flask, Django, Node.js) Awareness of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture. An exciting opportunity to join the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU), within the University of Southampton, as a Trial Assistant. The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) is a UK Cancer Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered unit and was set up in 2006 to design and conduct academically led clinical trials. The Unit employs trial managers, data managers, statisticians, regulatory staff and administrative support staff. We manage a growing portfolio of multi-centre clinical trials that will directly influence routine clinical practice. The Unit is core funded by Cancer Research UK, has support funding from the NHS National Institute for Health Research, and is based at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust. You will work with other colleagues in a team supporting our trial management team and will take responsibility for providing high quality administrative support across a range of activities.
