These resources support research projects, teaching materials, curriculum design, and student skill development. The role oversees database selection, vendor relationships, contracts, payments, and compliance, while ensuring platforms remain relevant, cost effective, and aligned with Faculty priorities. Working closely with academic and professional staff, the Research Database Manager provides advice on database access, data extraction, project-specific data solutions, software and Gen AI use, and basic coding support for teaching and research. The role also promotes database capability through workshops, newsletters, and online forums, while reviewing usage, costs, and research outputs to drive continuous improvement and innovation. As the successful candidate, you will hold a PhD or relevant Masters/Honours qualification with equivalent professional experience in a related discipline, with demonstrated expertise in managing large datasets for research and educational purposes. You will bring experience in contract and budget management, strong technical skills in SAS, STATA, R, and Python, and excellent interpersonal skills to build effective relationships across staff, students, and external stakeholders. The Role and Department Durham University Space Research Centre (SPARC) Durham University has established its new Durham Space Research Centre (SPARC), a £5 million hub of excellence for interdisciplinary space research, training and industrial engagement supported by Durham's Strategic Research Fund (SRF). SPARC addresses cross-disciplinary space-related challenges to promote the responsible and sustainable use of space. The successful candidate will be a part of SPARC, collaborating with SPARC researchers and participating in relevant activities. For more information, visit The Role Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to support SPARC activities in robotics and AI research topics. This post is fixed term for 24 months. Successful applicants will, ideally, be in post by September 2026. The successful candidate will be managed by Dr Nikos Mavrakis and Prof. Hubert Shum (Computer Science Department) and expected to collaborate with Prof. Atanu Chaudhuri (Business School), as well as other members of SPARC. After their end of mission operations, satellites are decommissioned either by deorbiting or by moving to a high-altitude orbit. Even in an inactive state, satellites contain valuable materials and components that could be reused as a resource for future missions. To optimise this recycling process, an optimal circular pathway for the parts and sub-parts in the satellites need to be developed, considering the condition of the materials, the costs of processing and the environmental impact. The recent breakthroughs in AI, machine vision and robotics provide the technological foundation for the concept of satellite recycling. Visual inputs enable effective identification of components and their conditions, while multi-sensory data supports the determination of material types, with AI underpinning the overall decision-making process. Handling of the identified components is performed through robotic manipulation planning, executing the recycling process. The overarching aim of the project is to determine the optimal circular pathway for satellite parts using AI and supply chain modelling and develop the robotic manipulation capabilities for disassembling the identified sub-assemblies or parts.

Description The Smart Materials Lab (Panče Naumov Group) at the Division of Science and Mathematics, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a highly motivated post-doctoral candidate in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for materials science, with an emphasis on structure-property-relationships, materials optimization, materials under extreme conditions, and generative AI. Candidates must possess substantial experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning methods, specifically in AI-driven materials discovery, machine learning applications for materials, or generative AI related to materials. The successful candidate will independently lead a project focused on developing generative AI models to establish structure-property relationships for materials discovery. This individual will be expected to collaborate closely with the project team and coordinate efforts with experimentalists from the Smart Materials Lab (SML) and the Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM) at NYUAD. The results of this work are anticipated to be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at prominent conferences. We offer unique opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaborations, organization of scientific workshops, and attendance at conferences. Key qualifications include a PhD in a relevant field, expertise in AI/ML (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Python), interest in materials applications, and a strong publication record. Areas of research Thermal processing of minerals pyrometallurgy Job Description The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is seeking applications for an 18-month postdoctoral position in the field of mineral thermal processing and pyrometallurgy. The position is part of strategic, industry-linked research projects funded by the OCP Group.The postdoctoral researcher will focus on the development of innovative high-temperature processes for the transformation, upgrading, or enrichment of mineral resources, particularly those derived from complex or secondary ores. The work will include the study of the thermal and physicochemical properties of minerals, design and execution of thermal treatment experiments (e.g., calcination, roasting, smelting), and optimization of pyrometallurgical flow sheets for the production of value-added materials or metals.The selected candidate will contribute to both fundamental understanding and industrial applications of thermal processing, including product characterization, process design and modeling, and techno-economic evaluation of pyrometallurgical routes. Qualifications Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Materials Chemistry, or a related discipline, with a specialization in pyrometallurgy or mineral thermal processing. Strong background in material characterization techniques (e.g., XRD, TGA/DSC, SEM, etc.). Hands-on experience in laboratory-scale thermal treatment using muffle furnaces, tubular reactors, or pilot-scale kilns. Proven ability to conduct independent research, analyze data critically, and communicate results effectively. Excellent scientific writing and oral communication skills in English are required; proficiency in French is a plus. Preferred Qualifications Experience in pyrochimical processing of oxide, sulfide, or silicate ores. Familiarity with thermodynamic simulation software (e.g., FactSage, Thermo-Calc, etc). Previous involvement in industry-oriented or collaborative research projects.
